With the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program currently unfunded, the upcoming election is an important opportunity to learn where candidates stand on conservation. Voting is one way we can help shape the future of Wisconsin’s natural resources. As you prepare to head to the polls on November 3rd, take some time to learn about the candidates on your ballot and their positions on conservation.

♻️ Got old electronics gathering dust? Give them a new life!

Join us Saturday, November 7th, for a community-wide electronics recycling event hosted by Mineral Point High School EWC and COM2 Recycling Solutions. It’s a great opportunity to clear out unwanted electronics while supporting Mineral Point High School students!

Accepted items include TVs, computers, laptops, tablets, phones, printers, gaming consoles, small household electronics, cords, and much more. Please note that large appliances, batteries, paint, fluorescent bulbs, and certain other items cannot be accepted. Help keep electronics out of the landfill and support our local students. We hope to see you there!

Join Wormfarm Institute at Wintergreen on Sunday, November 15th, for a free, family-friendly evening celebrating the connections between neighbors, communities, and the flyways that connect us all🎶💚🐦

Bring a dish to share and enjoy a community potluck, learn about waterfowl and flyways, meet fellow nature lovers, and hit the dance floor with live music from the Shark Hollow String & Whistle Band. Never barn danced before? No problem! All dances will be taught.

Conservation is about more than protecting land. It’s also about bringing people together, sharing stories, and building connections that last. This is a chance to do just that, with good food, new friends, and plenty of room to dance.

🦇HAPPY BAT WEEK🦇

October 24–31 is Bat Week, a chance to celebrate these often overlooked neighbors and the important role they play in healthy ecosystems! Bats help control insect populations, including agricultural pests, and contribute to the health of the landscapes we all depend on. Wisconsin is home to several bat species, many of which face conservation challenges. Protecting healthy habitats helps support bats and the many other species that call the Driftless home.

Get hands-on with the Driftless Trail! Join DALC staff and fellow volunteers at Weaver Road to learn stonework techniques and help build a durable, sustainable trail. No need to be a stonework expert. We’ll provide guidance along the way!

Earlier this week, DALC Executive Director Jennifer Filipiak met with Sarah Widder along the Military Ridge State Trail 🚲

Sarah is riding Wisconsin's 44 state bicycle trails, covering roughly 1,700 miles of trail, to celebrate our state's outdoor spaces and raise awareness for the funding needed to protect, maintain, and expand them.

Along the way, they stopped at the Stack and Lynch conservation easements, highlighting the lasting impact of land conservation here in the Driftless. Wisconsin's Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program has helped protect special places, support outdoor recreation, and connect people with the land. With this funding currently lapsed, Sarah is using her ride to remind us what's at stake and why reliable conservation funding matters for Wisconsin's future Team Knowles Nelson

DALC staff members Shannon Roznoski and Andy Bingle joined this year’s Prairie Seed Challenge🌾

Native seed collection is an important part of prairie restoration. Collecting and sharing locally adapted seeds helps bring native plants back to the landscape, supporting biodiversity, pollinators, and healthy ecosystems across Dane County and beyond.

We’re grateful to be part of a conservation community that shares knowledge, builds relationships, and works together to care for the land. Partnerships like these help make restoration possible, one seed at a time!

Last weekend, astronomers from the Milwaukee Astronomical Society, Madison Astronomical Society, and Driftless Stargazing LLC gathered at Wintergreen to explore the night sky, share their knowledge, and learn from one another. From the Milky Way overhead to a glimpse of the Andromeda Galaxy through a telescope, the evening offered a look at Wintergreen’s potential for future stargazing gatherings🌌⭐

Protecting land also means creating opportunities for people to connect with the natural world and with each other. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us for a night of shared exploration!
