The National Weather Service as issued a Flash Flood Warning for southern Effingham County and western Jasper County until 6PM tonight.

Flash Flooding – With all the heavy downpours today and more forecast tomorrow, will you be ready if flash flooding should occur?
Make sure to enable Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) on your phone. If flooding occurs while you’re outdoors, immediately get to higher ground, and NEVER enter flood waters in a vehicle or on foot.
Remember these flash flood safety tips:
• If a flash flood warning is issued for your area, or if there is any possibility of a flash flood, move immediately to higher ground. Do not wait for instructions to move.
• Do not walk through moving water. Six inches of moving water can make you fall.
• Do not drive into flooded areas.
• Do not disregard or drive around traffic barricades that close off flooded roadways.
• Do not camp or park your vehicle along streams, rivers or creeks, particularly during threatening conditions.
• If you encounter floodwater: Turn Around, Don’t Drown®.

Effingham County Sheriff’s Department, Dieterich High School and the Dieterich Fire Department and many other local agencies, joined forces to create a mock crash for students before prom and graduation. The video is an emotional scene with emotional reactions. It was set up to be as realistic as possible to have the greatest impact on our students. We hope this guides students to make better choices as well as opens a dialogue between parents and teens. We thank everyone who helped make the mock crash possible. Video credits go to Jadyn Pruemer.
