🚒 Structure Fire – Incident Report

The Dieterich Fire Protection District was toned out for a possible structure fire after smoke was reported coming from a building at Equity.

Upon arrival, the Fire Chief observed no visible signs of fire or smoke from two sides of the building. After further investigation, a large amount of smoke was discovered inside the structure.

Mutual aid was requested, with an engine and chief responding from the Teutopolis Fire Protection District, along with a tender and chief from the Montrose Fire Protection District.

Firefighters made entry and located a fire that had started in a workbench area on the west side of the shop. Crews ventilated the structure, removed items from the building, and extinguished the fire.

Dieterich crews cleared the scene at approximately 5:30 PM.

Atmospheric conditions exist that favor the possible formation of
weak circulations. Some of these circulations are occurring
underneath developing showers and thunderstorms, where a funnel cloud
may develop. Once the rain begins, the funnel cloud usually
dissipates.

Low hanging clouds can also appear to dip up and down at times,
but they will not show signs of any rapid rotation. An actual
funnel cloud will exhibit spinning in a counter-clockwise direction.

In rare instances these funnels may briefly touch down. Stay alert
and be prepared to move to a safe shelter if a funnel cloud
approaches the ground.
