Monica Lewis-Patrick is the President & CEO of We the People of Detroit and a nationally recognized water justice advocate affectionately known as "The Water Warrior." For decades, she has been a fearless leader in the fight for equitable access to clean, affordable water, advancing policies and community-driven solutions that center the needs of historically undervalued communities.

Through local, national, and international advocacy, Monica has become a powerful voice for environmental justice, reminding us that access to safe water is not a privilege—it is a fundamental human right.

Her work stands as a testament to the power of grassroots leadership, collective action, and unwavering hope.

Tepfirah Rushdan is Detroit's Director of Sustainability and a lifelong community organizer whose work has helped shape the city's environmental movement for nearly two decades. Working at the intersection of climate, land, food, and racial justice, she has championed initiatives that empower communities to thrive while protecting the resources that sustain them.
A visionary leader and collaborator, Tepfirah has played a pivotal role in launching transformative efforts such as the Detroit Black Farmer Land Fund and the Black to the Land Coalition, advancing equitable access to land, healthy food, and environmental stewardship.
Her work reminds us that sustainability is about more than protecting the environment—it's about investing in people, preserving communities, and creating a future where everyone has the opportunity to flourish.
