Trees Forever DSM Friends

This year, Principal Financial Group was our winner for Outstanding Volunteer Group and yesterday they reminded us why! Year after year, volunteers from Principal come out for an afternoon and make a huge difference in a Des Moines neighborhood. This season was no different. as 26 volunteers donated their time and energy to plant 45 trees. In a few short hours, they were able to transform a block in the Valley High Manor neighborhood. We're so grateful for every individual who planted trees with us yesterday 💚

Our tree distribution was a success ✔

With the help of our volunteers, TreeKeepers, and Growing Futures members, we were able to distribute trees to community members throughout the Des Moines metro. A big thank you to everyone who adopted a tree. Increasing the tree canopy leads to so many community wide benefits, and we appreciate everyone's help in our efforts 💚

Today our Growing Futures members got to explore career paths in forestry thanks to Joe and Sam at the city’s Public Works Forestry Department.

A huge thank you to both of them for spending their Saturday discussing their career paths and giving us a tour of their workspace. It’s so cool to hear about the different ways people end up working with trees 🌳

This past Saturday, we were lucky to be joined by the Rotary Club of West Des Moines and Ankeny Cub Scout Pack 237 to plant some trees! They worked alongside our Growing Futures members to add 45 trees to our Des Moines tree canopy.

One of our long time volunteers said this was the first time he’s seen so many ‘young buds’ participating at a volunteer event. “Their enthusiasm touched my heart.” 💚💚💚

We want to say a huge thank you to Amanda and Claire with the Prairie Meadows Hydroponic Farm for welcoming our Growing Futures members this past Saturday!!

The teens got to go behind the scenes of the hydroponic operation that produces thousands of pounds of leafy greens every year. The produce is delivered to the community through the WesleyLife Meals on Wheels, reducing food insecurity and supporting healthy aging in Central Iowa. 💚🥬💚
