📚 BANNED BOOKS WEEK 📚

Celebrate the Freedom to Read at the YWRC Book Sale!

Some of the most powerful books are also some of the most challenged.

Did you know Iowa is one of the biggest book banning states? Since Iowa Senate File 496 has been in place, hundreds of books across the state have been restricted from readers. There is now quite a hefty catalogue of books that have been either removed or challenged in the state of Iowa.

From classics like To Kill a Mockingbird, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, and Slaughterhouse-Five to contemporary favorites like The Hate U Give and The Fault in Our Stars, books have been challenged or banned for tackling difficult subjects, amplifying diverse voices, and encouraging readers to see the world from different perspectives.

During Banned Books Week, we’re celebrating stories that have sparked conversations—and we have plenty waiting to be discovered at the YWRC Book Sale!

📖 Shop challenged and banned titles
📚 Discover classics and contemporary favorites
💜 Support a great cause while building your own library

Read freely. Read widely. Read what challenges you.
