Working on Behalf of Iowaโ€™s Investor-Owned Electric & Natural Gas Utilities

The Iowa Utility Association, or IUA, was formed in 1971 to develop, organize and promote improvement in the common business interests and conditions of Iowa's investor-owned electric and natural gas public utilities. Prior to the IUA's formation and dating back to the mid-1940s, an informal working relationship existed a

mong investor-owned utilities to address statewide programs and industry issues. Today, the IUA operates as a 501(c)6 non-profit corporation. From its offices near the capitol in Des Moines, the IUA works with personnel from its member companies to develop, coordinate and promote common industry public policy. In addition, the IUA organizes various forums to advance public understanding of industry issues and economic development initiatives. Alliant Energy is making Iowa and Wisconsin a little brighter and greener one tree at a time. Through its One Million Trees initiative, Alliant has pledged to plant 1 million trees by 2030 โ€” and is well on its way, with January marking over 600,000 trees planted. Alliant continues to work toward this goal by offering landscaping trees at a discounted cost, replacing trees after timber harvests and storms, and partnering with Trees Forever to support tree-planting projects in communities throughout Iowa and Wisconsin. The U.S. Department of Energy just published a national study on electricity prices. Iowa showed up on the right side of every chart.

As electricity demand grew across the country, states that grew the most generally saw prices fall. Iowa was one of them. (Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory / Brattle Group, April 2026.)
