We had a FANTASTIC Day on Big Timber Creek Sunday! I do apologize for being off on the tides by a couple hours, making it a bit harder, but we still had 22 people participate. 6 People made it the entire 7.5 miles from Old Pine Farm to Waterfront Park in Brooklawn. 15 people paddled 3.7 miles to Venella Park in Runnemede. The other just paddled around the Headwaters by OPF. Here are some pictures they took.

I went to a dentist office that had this kind of parking lot...made so much sense to me.

In Germany, many parking lots are doing double duty as part of the country's "sponge city" strategy . Instead of traditional, water-sealing asphalt, these lots are paved with permeable grass grids .

The reinforced tiles bear the load of a vehicle while the open spaces are filled with soil and grass, allowing rainwater to infiltrate naturally . This design combats urban flooding, recharges groundwater, and filters out heavy metals and oils before they reach the water table .

Furthermore, replacing heat-absorbing asphalt with living grass helps lower the urban heat island effect, cooling the surrounding air by several degrees during summer heatwaves .

Sometimes, the most innovative infrastructure looks just like a green lawn . 🅿️🌱

Tomorrow's the Day! Our Annual Big Timber Creek Paddle. We launch from Old Pine Farm between 8:30- 10:30am since High Tide at OPF is about 9:30. So we will "Ride the Tide" out to the Delaware. People will be going to Waterfront Park in Brooklawn, but some will only be going halfway to Venella Park in Runnemede. That is still the greenest, most lush part of the paddle. The EVENT is FREE! If you need return transportation, we can provide that for a donation. Please take & share pictures & videos. We estimate the total at 7 miles, but please help us with a more accurate measurement.
