Common Name : Deptford Public Works
Units: District 9, Gloucester County North and South Brush Task Force.

Comments: Caller reports possible fire behind Deptford Public Works. Unknown if its the landfill or in the public works yard.

Earlier tonight Station 9-3 and Duty Sqaud 921 were dispatched to a large brush fire behind Deptford Public Works. Squad 921's Officer Lt. Worrell confirmed several large brush fires at the former Kinsley Landfill on Hurffville Road. Squad 921 pulled several hand lines and used their deck gun to fight the fire. Engine 933 laid a 5" supply line from Hurffville Road. District Chief Thomas upgraded the box to include all District units and 9301 Chief Kell had the Gloucester County North and South Brush Task Forces dispatched. Units are still operating at the scene. The fire is under investigation by the Deptford Fire Marshall's Office.

Today Members of Union Fire Company and the Deptford Fire Department attended the New Jersey Fallen Firefighters Memorial at the New Jersey Fire Museum in Allentown NJ. We honored Al Fischer of Union Fire Company and Chief Jeff Pfeiffer of Almonesson Lake Fire Company who both died in the line of duty and all Firefighters in New Jersey who gave their lives in the line of duty. The Memorial serves as a lasting tribute to their courage, dedication, and sacrifice in protecting our communities.

Memorial Day is a day to remember all who died in the line of duty and gave their lives for our Freedom. Johnny Rankin, Guy Schaeffer and Gus Ponto where all Members of Union Fire Company and the Deptford Fire Department who were killed in action during the Vietnam War. Each has a street named after them in the Blackwood Terrace Section of Deptford Township. Take a moment today and remember all who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
