Movimiento Poder is a community-based organization led by working-class Latines fighting for collective liberation. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏼 (Formerly Padres & Jóvenes Unidos)

Movimiento Poder was born out of a struggle at Valverde Elementary School in Denver where parents removed a principal who refused to stop the practice of forcing Mexicano children to eat their lunches from the cafeteria floor as a form of punishment. In 1992, after a year of organizing and successfully replacing the administrative leadership at Valverde, parents determined that it was necessary to

build off of their experience and work with other parents in dealing with similar issues within Denver Public Schools. Parents from all over the district were calling Valverde parents for guidance, advice and support. With no office, staff, or money, Movimiento Poder was formed by parents willing to organize for educational justice, equity and excellence in Denver Public Schools. Nuestros talleres de verano para jóvenes han regresado, ¡y están mejor que nunca! A través de nuestra serie de talleres "Verano de Acción y Liberación", los jóvenes aprenderán sobre su historia, su identidad personal, el bienestar y desarrollarán habilidades de liderazgo para generar un cambio en nuestra comunidad. ¡Además - los participantes recibirán un estipendio de $50 por asistir a las 5 sesiones!

The Program & Operations Coordinator supports the implementation, coordination, and operations of Movimiento Poder’s youth programming, including Nuestra Alma, a culturally grounded, two-generation mental health and wellness initiative serving Latine and first-generation immigrant youth and their families in Southwest Denver.

VICTORY! The Denver Public Schools (DPS) Board of Education voted unanimously to pass an immigration policy that will offer clarity and safety for our immigrant students.

This is a HISTORIC VOTE, one that will support our immigrant students and families in schools. POWER TO THE STUDENTS. ✊🏽
