As we celebrate the 20th Annual Vale La Pena Awards, we’re proud to introduce a new honor: the Lifetime Achievement Award. Our inaugural recipient is Ken Salazar, recognizing his lifelong commitment to public service and his lasting impact on Colorado and beyond.

A fifth-generation Coloradan, Ken has served as Colorado Attorney General, U.S. Senator, U.S. Secretary of the Interior and U.S. Ambassador to Mexico. Throughout his career, he has championed conservation, civil rights and an inclusive America.

We’re honored to recognize Ken’s remarkable career and continued dedication to Colorado. Join us October 22 for the 20th Annual Vale La Pena Awards as we celebrate Ken and this milestone year for the event.

What a day at the 22nd Annual Fishing Derby! 🎣

Nearly 300 students and teachers joined us at Cherry Creek State Park for a day of fishing, games, face painting, balloon animals, snacks and plenty of fun. We were also excited to partner with Special Olympics Colorado for the first time to promote healthy habits and hydration outdoors.

A huge thank you to AMG National Trust for 22 years of support, and especially Vivienne Benoit, who has been part of this event since the beginning. We wish her all the best as she heads toward retirement!

Ellen dedicated her life to advancing social justice, strengthening communities, mentoring future leaders and honoring the cultural heritage of Northern New Mexico and Colorado.

Her journey from a single mother returning to college to a distinguished public interest attorney and community leader is a testament to perseverance, compassion and service.

For more than three decades with Colorado Legal Services, Ellen advocated for low-income individuals and families and helped establish Colorado’s first Medical-Legal Partnership with Children’s Hospital.

At these events, you will hear from experienced den leaders who have been in your shoes, see examples of what a great den meeting can look like, and practice songs, skits, games, and other activities you can bring back to your Scouts.
