Natalie Dykstra is the author of Clover Adams: A Gilded and Heartbreaking Life, which won a National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) Fellowship and was a finalist for the 2013 Massachusetts Book Award. πŸ“š

Dykstra probes Clover’s enduring reputation as a woman betrayed. And, most movingly, she untangles the complex, poignant - and universal - truths of her shining and impossible marriage.

Dawna Hammers has long been a familiar face in the local music scene, playing at the Cotuit Center for the Arts, Woods Hole Community Hall, Cultural Center of Cape Cod, Spire Center for Performing Arts, and ArtsFalmouth Inc's Arts Alive festival.

These days, Dawna is most proud of playing concerts for individuals living with memory-related diseases in assisted living facilities, councils on aging, and private homes where she is a caregiver.

Thanks to a grant from the Arts Foundation, she recently finished up a documentary showcasing the healing power of music for this segment of the Cape's population. You can read about the project at https://www.artsfoundation.org/news/gifts-at-work-the-healing-power-of-music

Over the next few weeks, Dawna will be showing the film at a variety of locations, including next Tuesday at Highfield Hall and later this month at Falmouth Public Library, Woods Hole Public Library, Alzheimer's Family Support Center at the Cape Cod Mall, and the Cape Cod Museum of Art.

Event highlight! Happening June 11th β€Ό

The five great American artists of the late 18th century – Charles Willson Peale, John Singleton Copley, Benjamin West, John Trumbull and Gilbert Stuart – had started their careers as British subjects, loyal to the Crown. The Revolution forced them to examine whether they intended to carry forward this status or become contributing citizens in the new republic. Even today, our collective understanding of what America’s origins look like is still largely dependent on these five artists and their images.

Join Beth Stein, Chair of the Programs and Advancement Committee for the Brewster Historical Society, for this intriguing talk that pairs with our current exhibition- Old Yarmouth: Life During the American Revolution!
