History defines this area and volunteers labor to keep history engaging.

Among them are the Northern Neck Farm Museum, the Kilmarnock Museum, the Morattico Waterfront Museum; and the Colonial Seaport Foundation’s Luna, a floating museum based in Deltaville.

All of them are staffed solely by volunteers who are eager to share their stories.

Weather happens. The event has been rescheduled. Everyone stay safe

An early nor'easter has flooded low-lying roads, forcing us to reschedule our "Sing the Bay Fantastic," a benefit concert for the Middlesex County Volunteer Rescue Squad. Our new date is two weeks from now: Friday, October 9 at 7 pm. Our wonderful sea shanty singers, Janie Meneely and Rob van Sante, will regale us with song and story then. (Maybe they'll write a song about the nor'easter that flooded Fishing Bay Road!) 🌊Same great music. Same great cause. āš“

Don’t miss this opportunity to support our local rescue squad AND enjoy a great performance!

Do you know the types of fire extinguishers on your boat?

Today was fire system inspection day aboard Luna and the gang from ASI in Gloucester know their stuff! We had one that was cycled out due to manufacturers parts no longer able to support recharging, but otherwise all is well. Luna carries four types of extinguishers, ABC for general fires, K for greasy galley fires, D for combustible metals, and a halon derivative for the engine room.
In addition to the extinguishers we have smoke and co2 alarms that are regularly tested, and the crew participates in fire drills annually then we have refreshers on a regular basis- everyone has a station and assignment. Plus if things go really bad, we have our Coast Guard approved galvanized gallon buckets with Captain Of The Port approved tethers- no kidding, that’s how it’s phrased in regulation! Plus our awesom axes that were donated by one of our incredible volunteers!

This has been a busy and fun weekend for the crew. Yesterday, we got to help Capt. Laura and company in Yorktown as we got to es**rt the conductor of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra to the stage! Then enjoyed a great performance!
Today we got Luna under way for an afternoon training session. Ok, ok, ok… we sailed! And she kicked her heels up and went! On board were two new crew volunteers and lots of smiles for three hours.
Now that it’s cooled off, we’ll be back out regularly getting ready for this falls schedule of events.
Thank you to our awesome volunteers and to you, our followers for supporting Luna.
A big thank you to The Jolly Skipper Boatyard for helping us with this mornings hiccup and catching our lines today. They had their own things going on, but if they are on the dock always come over to help. We appreciate it.
