Does our Model Railroad Club get together and just run trains? (And talk, of course.) At our Deltaville club house? This Tuesday, April 7, our Deltaville home will be open just for running trains! (And talk, of course.) From 6p to 7:30p Tuesday evening, bring your HO or Lionel O Gauge trains if you wish, or just come and watch the others run trains. (And talk, of course.)

There is no admission fee. There won’t be a business meeting while running trains. (But there will be talk, of course.) You won’t find tracks ripped apart because of some problem. Just come and run your trains or watch our trains roll at our clubhouse, 83 Ball Park Rd, right next to the Deltaville Ball Park.

NOTE: our club house is not ADA accessible. You will need to ascend a flight of stairs to get to our showroom. (And talk to the members, of course.)
Come Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from 6p to 7:30p and just enjoy model trains.

Our HO guys finally have a camera that can ride on the trains. We'll begin showing you what our club HO layout really looks like.

Saturday, February 14, 2026, is the next club meeting for the Rappahannock River Railroaders. The meeting will begin at 9:30a. Our model railroad home is 83 Ball Park Rd in Deltaville, next to the Deltaville Ballpark. What's on our agenda? What else? Model Railroading!! And the business of running our model railroad in our clubhouse and our mobile display. A new agenda item is organizing club trips to other model railroad places and maybe even a trip to see the Union Pacific Big Boy when it travels east this summer.
If you are thinking of joining our model railroad club, stop by and visit our meeting and maybe check out our model railroad upstairs. For 2026 we have a new club President, Jim. In the outdoor picture he's on the left. The man on the right is our Vice President Joe. This is his second year as the V.P. The other picture shows Joe and his brother, Bob, setting up the HO layout on our mobile trailer display last month at Richmond Speedway. Stop by Saturday morning and visit with our two lead officers. What's good about belonging to the Rappahannock River Railroaders?

LIONEL PRE-WAR Trainsets still carry interest with some Lionel model railroad enthusiasts. If you saw my Facebook post from January 16, 2026, I mentioned I would bring a Pre-War steam engine trainset to run on our mobile display at Richmond Speedway on January 17. Information on the web leads me to believe this engine was manufactured around 1940. The video with this post shows the train running very well. The two crosses on the inside track occasionally created problems, but for about 75 minutes the train rolled around the layout. The last half of the video has some train views of 258 rolling by. A few still pictures of the engine and the cars used on the train are at the end.

Here's some of our Lionel gauge action from Thanksgiving weekend in Richmond from train view. If it keeps snowing outside, I'll have more video like this to show.

JOE’S COMMUNITY TRAIN RUN is going on this weekend! Our club Vice President Joe has our mobile display at his home just outside of Deltaville. Stop by and get a little personal show on our Lionel and HO gauge tracks. Maybe bring your train along and see it run on our display. Remote Control engines might get tough, but Joe will do his best. 300 Mae Lane, Wake VA is the address to enter into your GPS. HE’ll be running trains from about 10a to 3:30p Sunday (21) & Monday (22). Hope to see you there!

HOLIDAY OPEN HOUSE THIS SATURDAY!
If you need small repair services on your HO and O Gauge/ Lionel Trains, try out our FREE member services.
This Saturday, December 13, 2025, will be the Rappahannock River Railroaders final blitz for the 2025 calendar year.

We’ll begin at 9:30a with our final club business meeting of the year. This meeting should be wrapped up by 10a for obvious reasons. Stop by early to check out club operations and ask about joining our club for the 2026 calendar year. Many club officers will be on hand to answer questions about joining our club.

Our December Deltaville Clubhouse O P E N H O U S E is also this Saturday between 10am and 2pm. The clubhouse is located at 83 Ball Park Rd in Deltaville. If you search for our club on Google Maps we have a pinned location. We’ll even turn the heat on for you! (You won’t need shovels or Ice Scrapers to come!)

If you wish, bring your HO trains or Lionel trains to run on our club layout before your Holiday season display at home gets running. WHAT IF YOUR ENGINE DOESN’T WORK? As we have offered previous December’s, bring that engine along! A couple of our members will look at your old family heirloom and just might get it hauling a payload again.

Some of our members will have some used model train equipment for sale in our meeting room. Stop by and check out the selection and maybe save on a treasured need or find a new prize for your home model train set.

Come along and spend a couple of hours watching model trains roll and spend a little time talking to the members about the Rappahannock River Railroaders.

SCIENCE MUSEUM of RICHMOND Model Railroad Show Day One is in the Books! Many people! A Large crowd in the morning was nice to see. For this weekend our mobile display is featuring BoxCar trains. Both our HO & O gauge displays had a BoxCar only train running today (Friday-28). Check out my short essay in the pictures for a history of boxcars in American Freight train history. The Rappahannock River Railroaders will continue this theme through this Saturday and Sunday event at the Science Museum of Richmond. There were many other impressive model train displays running alongside us. If you do not have plans for the weekend already, come join us!! 9:30a to 5p both days at 2500 West Broad Street in Richmond.

Our Mobile Display will be visiting the Richmond Science Museum Thanksgiving Weekend again with both HO and O (Lionel) Gauge displays working. This has always been a great event for model railroad enthusiasts, not just Rappahannock River Railroader fans. Tickets for the event including general admission for the museum are $18.50 for adults, $15.50 for youth ages 6-12 and seniors 60-over, $11 for children ages 3-5.
