🥁 Behind the scenes with the Big Red Marching Band! 🎷

UPDATE!! I have update additional images to the gallery.

Before they took the street by storm at The Big E, all the hard work and anticipation happened right here during preparation! I captured these moments of the kids getting ready, tuning up, and building that incredible pre-show energy.

📸 Check out the full gallery of pre-parade prep here: https://antunesphotography.pixieset.com/khsmbbige/

Note: While I missed capturing the actual parade route, a huge shoutout to the other awesome band parents who stepped up and got those shots! Teamwork makes the dream work! ❤️🖤

There is a distinct magic that happens when the sun goes down and the stadium lights flare to life, but the real electricity on Friday night doesn't just come from the gridiron. It comes from the stands, the sidelines, and the incredible halftime field show brought to life by the Big Red Marching Band.

The amount of sheer hours, discipline, and passion these students pour into perfecting every single formation, step, and note is nothing short of inspiring. As a photographer, capturing that level of raw focus and artistic precision under the stadium lights is a dream. From the gleaming brass lines and intense focus of the percussion section to the fluid energy of the field performance, Game 1 was an absolute showcase of Killingly talent.

The full cinematic gallery is officially live. Take a look inside to find your favorite musicians, proud section leaders, and those split-second dramatic moments that define the heart of the music department.

What an unbelievable day at UConn Band Day this past Saturday! 🎺🥁
The Killingly High School Marching Band had the incredible opportunity to take the field at Pratt & Whitney Stadium, joining forces with several amazing high school marching bands from all across Connecticut.

Our students spent the day rehearsing, learning, and performing side-by-side with the phenomenal UConn Marching Band during the halftime show. From the combined full-band moments down to individual section ensembles, our kids absolutely crushed it! It was a long, packed day, but every single minute was worth it. The kids had an amazing time and made some unforgettable memories.

A massive thank you to the KHS Music Boosters for keeping everyone fueled up! An extra special shout-out goes to Chris and Jessica Mongeau for running the grill, moving all of our heavy gear, and making sure the entire band was fed and well-taken care of. We couldn’t do this without you! 🙌🍔

Thank you so much to the UConn Marching Band for having us and hosting such an inspiring event. Next stop... UMass Band Day is just a few weeks away! Keep your eyes peeled! 👀❤️

The Images are too large to be on Facebook and Instagram. I simply added them to my website. If anyone would like something printed let me know. I know a guy...

There is a distinct moment in every KHS Music parent’s life where you realize this is no longer just an after-school activity. At first, it feels manageable—they just wanted to play an instrument or be with friends. Then suddenly, the family calendar is overtaken by Thursday rehearsals, missing uniforms, drill shoes, black socks, sheet music, or an instrument to drop off before the bus leaves. You find yourself picking up a kid from KHS who is either buzzing with adrenaline or staring blankly in total exhaustion. But somewhere in the middle of that chaos, we start to see it. We see why they love it. It is never just about the notes; it is the feeling of standing inside something much bigger than themselves. They realize their effort deeply matters to the person standing next to them—if they don't show up, a piece of the puzzle is missing. It is the sound of a chord locking into place after weeks of struggle. It is the chaotic bus ride home after the Big E or UConn’s Band Day. It is the inside jokes born from 10-hour days—like someone forgetting uniform pants, or decorating Todd Tree. It is a senior comforting a terrified freshman. It is Mr. Olsen saying, “One more time,” and watching the kids find energy for one more rep. It is the exact moment they realize they already belong. That is why they love it, and why we keep walking alongside them—even when the car smells like wet socks, fast food, and sunscreen, or when there are 47 urgent notifications on Remind or Email. Music builds kids in places we cannot always reach as parents. It teaches discipline, resilience, and teamwork without a single lecture. We see the confidence locking in and friendships cementing into lifelong bonds. Long after the final note of this 2025-2026 season rings out, they might forget the dark KHS parking lot. But they will forever remember how it felt. They will remember that they belonged to something extraordinary. And hopefully, they will remember that we were always there—right beside them. Because we always knew the truth: This was never just about the music.

Thank you, KHS Music Trailblazers, for an unforgettable year. We are all incredibly proud of you! 🎶❤
