The season is almost over.We had surprisingly decent winds for a hot and muggy August day, and we were able to get in three more races. This brings us to 28 races completed with two more to go to complete the season. The day again belonged to the Malihini with Dave and his daughter Aimee winning two of the three. The Yankee with Scott and his son won the third. Avery and Brian in the Red Witch, are still looking for that elusive victory. They had a mighty lead in the first race after getting off to a great start. They led after the first three marks, but the fickle lake winds nailed them going into the last mark. They lost the wind going into number two buoy and this allowed the Yankee and the Nymph ( the Wheaton brothers ) to catch them as they rounded the mark and headed for the finish. They came back with a second place finish in race #2. They still have one more week to get that elusive win. The Nymph, with Billy and Rick, came back this week with a 2 – 5 – 3 finish. Jumpin Jack with Steve and his daughter almost missed the first race, but hey arrived late and still managed to steal a 5th place finish. They tried flying their spinnaker again and it looks very pretty against their yellow boat, but they were only able to get a 5 – 4 – 5 finish. Once they master the complex rigging and get that thing flying, they will be a force on the lake. The Scoop ll, with Bill and Tony are battling it out with John and his wife Renee in the Red Baron to stay out of the cellar. Or as Bill likes to say, “The Anchor of the Fleet”.
Glad to say that Bucky is well on the way to recovery. Due to his recent illness, Billy has offered his home for our annual end of season awards party this year. We hope that Bucky and Jean will be able to attend.
The results for this week are:
35 2 5 3
245 4 1 1
545 5 4 5
676 1 3 2
698 3 2 4
699 7 6 7
741 6 7 7

After 28 races and throwing out the worst nine finishes, the standings are:
1. 676 25 pts.
2. 245 37 pts.
3. 545 49 pts.
4. 35 52 pts.
5. 698 66 pts.
6. 699 100 pts.
7. 741 102 pts.
See you all on the lake next week. Pray for wind !!

We had the best weather and racing conditions of the season this past Sunday. The wind was pretty steady all day with 6 to 12 knot winds from the North / Northeast. As usual, it was gusty and changing directions south of the sandbar and through the slot at the island, but all in all it was a great day of racing. We were able to go to number 7 for two races and this allowed all our neighbors at the south end of the lake to see our fleet in action. Steve and his crew actually tried to run their spinnaker this week. The day belonged to Dave and his daughter Aimee in the 245 Malihini with three wins. They took over the role of Scott and his daughter Rachel in the 676 Yankee, as they usually win most of the races this season. Avery and Brian, in the 698 Red Witch, also had a very good day with two seconds and a third. Avery is still looking for his first win in a few years and he comes closer each week. John in the Red baron 699, had another new crew member this week, George ?, and they managed to finish well enough to get out of last place for at least one week. We’ll see what Bill and Tony in the 741 Scoop, can come up with the next two weeks to beat out the Red Baron. Bill and Rick in the 35 Nymph had an off week for them with a third and two 6th place finishes. Not their usual effort this year. We only had three races this week, so they were a little longer in length, than usual. The last race went two lengths of the lake plus twice across the main lake which allowed everyone a chance to make up for any mistakes they may have made and it had the closest finish of the day between the Malihini and Jumpin-Jack-Flash. We have five more races to finish out the 2015 season and it appears as though Scott and Rachel have wrapped up the championship for the second year in a row. In fact, the last two races were sailed with Rachel as the captain and her dad as the crew member and they managed a very respectable two fourth place finishes. Rachel may be the future captain to contend with here at our lake. I don’t recall ever having a female win the 110 championship, but it may be in the near future. Our last female captain was Joel Patterson in the Eagle with Bruce as her crew member. Another bit of good news!! Bucky Wheaton is back home at the lake and he was seen watching some of the first race from his dock. We are all very happy that he his back home and well on the way to recovery. I heard that his wife, Jean, made him a big spaghetti supper on Saturday !! Welcome home !!
The official results for this week are:
35 6 3 6
245 1 1 1
545 5 6 2
676 3 4 4
698 2 2 3
699 4 5 5
741 7 7 7
After 25 races and throwing out the worst 8 finishes, the official standings are:
1. 676 22 pts.
2. 245 35 pts.
3. 545 40 pts.
4. 35 47 pts.
5. 698 62 pts.
6. 699 87 pts.
7. 741 89 pts.
Congratulations to Scott and Rachel in the 676 Yankee for their second Championship in a row !!!!

We finally had a good wind for our Sunday racing this week and we were able to go all the way to #7 buoy three times. We had four good races this week and Scott and Rachel, aboard the 676 Yankee proved once again that they are the boat to beat this year. They had two firsts which gives them an almost insurmountable lead of 15 points over the second place boat. Brian sailed the 698 Red Witch with a new crew this week and they steadfastly finished all four races and never gave up. John Keech sailed the 699, Red Baron, with his newest crew member, his son Aden, to some very respectable finishes of 6 – 5 – 3 – 4 and almost had two 3rds, but got nosed out at the finish line by Billy in the 35 Nymph in the 4th race. The other two wins went to the 245 Malihini and 545 Jumpin Jack Flash. The boo boo of the day has to go to the 545 Jumpin Jack Flash in the 3rd race. They missed the #6 buoy until the Malihini hailed them and reminded them to take it on the starboard side, then they proceeded to run aground at the #2 buoy and ended up in fifth place after leading most of the race. But they came back and won the fourth race.
I haven’t heard anymore about the Eagle, but it isn’t in the water yet. Bucky has a new white boat looking like it is ready to race, but no news yet on when it will compete or who will sail her. Anyone know what the name of the boat is going to be?? As a side note: The Armand Ricard Memorial race was held on Saturday when The Red Witch, and Brian at the helm, decided they would like to race against the Malihini with David and his grandaughter Ashley. The race was won by the Malihini when the Red Witch ran into some dead air at #2 buoy and was never able to recover, but Brian got some more experience at the helm of his 110.
Congratulations to Billy and Lauren’s, daughter Nicole on her graduation from Northeastern University. Billy had a good day sailing even after all that Partying on Saturday!
The results from Sunday are:
35 4 2 4 3
245 3 1 2 5
545 2 4 5 1
676 1 3 1 2
698 7 7 7 7
699 6 5 3 4
741 5 6 6 6
The standings after 18 races and throwing out the 6 worst finishes are:
1. 676 13 pts.
2. 245 28 pts.
3. 35 32 pts.
4. 545 34 pts.
5. 698 46 pts.

This weeks racing left a lot to be desired as far as the wind was concerned. We were able to get in three races and were lucky to get that many completed. The first race started out with some decent wind, but it soon died down to nothing. Unfortunately, or fortunately for some, the first race was completed by Steve and his son in the winning time of 43 minutes. They beat the 45 minute time limit, so we all had to finish. Avery and Brian came in second and also had a third in the second race. Steve won the first two races and Scott won the third. The second and third races had a little more wind but not enough to make for some exciting racing so we only had three races this weekend. The boo boo of the day goes to John and Renee in the Red Baron. They were leading the race going into the first mark, Buoy #6, and took it on a starboard rounding rather the announced Port rounding, so they had to go back and ended up in last place. But they came back in the third race and nosed out Billy at the finish line for a 3rd place finish.
Some great news about the Eagle!! Bruce and Joel have sold the Eagle to people here on the lake and it will remain with our fleet. The new owners are known as “ The Kingsley Girls “. Bruce will be giving them some sailing lessons and hopefully they will be able to come out and play with us this season. Welcome to fleet #46 ladies !! Bucky is still working on his boat. We might have 9 boats before the end of the season.
The results for July 19th are:
35 3 5 5
245 4 4 2
545 1 1 3
676 5 2 1
698 2 3 7
699 7 7 4
741 6 6 6
After 14 races and throwing out the worst 4, the standings are:
1. 676 11 pts.
2. 245 26 pts.
3. 35 27 pts.
4. 698 36 pts.
5. 545 38 pts.
6. 741 48 pts.
7. 699 60 pts.
Bill – Please check my math and correct me if I made another mistake. I gave Scott a couple of extra points last week, but I think I have it right this week.
Happy sailing !!
