Our Arc Ambassador program launched at A Seat at the Table last spring, bringing community members together to support the mission of The Arc of Volusia.
For just $100 per year, Arc Ambassadors help expand opportunities and build a stronger future for individuals in our community. Membership includes invitations to exclusive outings, program updates, stories from our programs, and a closer connection to the work happening at The Arc.
Ruben and Dylan's story is a wonderful example of the difference The Arc makes.
On Ruben's very first day at The Arc of Volusia, he refused to even walk through the doors. After aging out of the traditional public school system, he was anxious about what came next. Everything felt unfamiliar, and the thought of meeting new people was overwhelming.
Then Ruben met Dylan.
Dylan included him in activities, sat next to him at outings, and showed him that The Arc was a place where he belonged. What started as a simple friendship quickly became exactly what Ruben needed to feel comfortable and excited to come to program every day.
As their friendship grew, so did Ruben's sense of belonging. Before long, he built friendships throughout The Arc. Ruben was even crowned King at an Arc dance, surrounded by friends who were cheering him on. Today, Ruben and Dylan attend nearly every community outing together, and they play on a local baseball team. Thanks to Ruben and Dylan, their families are close friends now, too.
Ruben and Dylan's story is a powerful reminder that belonging doesn't happen by chance, it happens because a community chooses to make it possible. Every friendship that begins, every new experience, every outing, and every moment of belonging is made possible by supporters of The Arc Volusia.
