☀️ Our neighborhood produce vendor is open with the season’s early local crops!

You’ll also find plenty of roadside stands popping up around the area. Now is the time to enjoy fresh-picked fruits and vegetables while they’re in season.

Nothing beats local produce picked at its peak. Support our local growers and enjoy the flavors of summer! 🍓🌽🥒🍅☀️

🌾 Davisburg History Spotlight

In 1844, Sarah Ann Partington traveled from New York to Springfield Township to visit her sister. The long journey from Detroit to Pontiac took six hours by stagecoach, and she later wrote that she barely knew where she was when she arrived.

What was supposed to be a simple visit changed her life forever.

The following year, Sarah married Samuel Foster and never left Springfield. Together they raised six children and established the Foster family homestead that became part of our township’s early history.

Sometimes the stories that shape a community begin with someone who simply came for a visit and decided to stay. ❤️

In the spirit of the end of the school year and summer beginning, here’s some history about education in early Springfield Township days!🇺🇸

The first Davisburg School was built in 1857 and initially served just eight pupils. As the community grew, the building was enlarged and educational opportunities expanded.

According to township records, by 1882 the Davisburg School offered twelve grades. A roster from the Spring Term of 1892 identifies students attending Davisburgh High School under Principal James Chesnut.

The roster includes several family names that remain familiar in Springfield Township history, including Walls, Burnaby, Burt, Kirkby, Newman, Phillips, Voorheis and others.

At a time when Springfield Township was largely rural and agricultural, local residents supported a school system that continued to grow and develop alongside the community itself.

Here is some advice from MIFMA on how to store our fruits and vegetables at home.🫐

Wondering how you should store produce? Room temperature is best for some while the refrigerator is required for others - this is determined by both safety and quality. To download or get additional information visit: https://www.canr.msu.edu/resources/storing_michigan_fresh_produce
