Nine years after blood transfusions helped save her life, Renee Hill had the opportunity to give that lifesaving gift to someone else. ❤️🩸

At age 31, Renee was diagnosed with Stage IV appendix cancer. Her treatment included chemotherapy, complex surgery and several blood transfusions that helped give her strength during the hardest days of her recovery.

Today, Renee is a team member at Versiti Blood Research Institute. When a VBRI blood drive fell on the anniversary of her lifesaving surgery, she received approval from her doctor and finally became a blood donor.

“Blood donations saved my life, and now I’m able to give that back,” Renee said.

The Versiti Blood Drive at the 9/11 Day of Remembrance at the Village of Holly Fire Department was a huge success! I volunteered as the greeter at the registration table, directing donors through the donation process in the black chair behind my crocheted blood drop family. (Thanks, Lore F***h.)
16 donors signed up to donate before Sept. 11, but by the end of the drive on Sept. 11, 27 people had signed in.
