Independence Fire Department had a special visitor today who gave us permission to share her story, and also provided breakfast!

In late December of 2025 Independence Fire received a call for a patient that was unconscious, and not responsive. When our crews arrived the patient was found to be in cardiac arrest. With no hesitation the crews provided CPR and transportation to the hospital. CPR and other advanced life support methods were initiated and found to be effective. The patient was breathing on her own and speaking prior to arrival to the emergency room. She was released from the hospital and came in to say how grateful she was for the services provided by the Fire Department.

It is not often that a severely critical patient is able to show up to give gratitude only a couple of weeks after their incident. While gratitude is never expected, we do love to hear when we've made a difference in someone's life.

Mrs. Joette Kunse, thank you for stopping in and speaking to us today about your experience. These moments are one of the many reasons we love to do what we do. We wish you the most stable recovery!

These last couple days have been a challenge for crews all over the state with the severe conditions. Multiple thousands of weather related calls have been responded to including trees on houses, numerous fires, motor vehicle accidents etc…we’d like to thank all the men and women of the MPFFU who have been battling the tough conditions to keep residents safe. As a reminder, avoid downed power lines, keep hydrants clear, and give crews plenty of room to operate on roadways.

Your Independence Firefighters participated in the Clarkston Christmas Market festivities held at Depot Park, bringing holiday cheer to the community. We were pleased to allow all, including Santa Claus and the Grinch, to explore the fire truck.
