Malo Mazurié, a French trumpeter and avid Bix fan, shared with us he recently released his first single "Davenport Blues" from his upcoming album "BIX" that will be releasing January 22nd, 2027 ahead of the anniversary of "Singing the Blues". He'll be playing at the Whitley Bay Jazz Festival this week in the UK alongside some of our favorite Bix Fest musicians.

Take a listen to his swingy rendition of Bix's original composition. We are always excited when musicians keep Bix Alive in their craft.

Got a fun museum art collection post for today. This here is a print by Quad City artist Bill Hannan of Bix and some dancers.

Bill Hannan was a Professor at Black Hawk College whose teaching career spanned many years. He graduated from Alleman High School in 1956, and was a life long resident of the Quad Cities. Bill's artwork is distinguished by his watercolor calligraphy, creating characters from all the classic works of fiction, landscapes, and local icons.

Film Reel Update: We've now come across a reel of Bill Donahoe's '73-'74 Bix Stomp as part of the collection of 16mm reels we have acquired. Based on shots we've been able to see, it features several bands and parts of their annual parade. The museum is currently looking into finding someone who can digitize 16mm film for us so we can make the videos available to watch. We are also digging into who the filmmaker of the reels are. The collection is now a total of 6 reels centered around the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Band from 1971-1974.

"To Bix - My Idol - May he some day acquire all that is worthy of him $ - Jimmy"

Here is a photo Jimmy Dorsey gave to Bix with a personal message attached. This is one of several musician photographs the Bix Museum has in our archives that are signed/personalized. It comes from the Beiderbecke Family Collection part of our Archives located at the Richardson Sloane Special Collections Center in the Davenport Public Library.

We recommend listening to "Idolizing" while viewing this picture. 🎺🎶

Another post from the George Johnson scrapbook. Here is an arrangement of advertisements for various shows the Wolverines were a part of that George saved. My favorite detail is that George wasn't too happy that the newspaper left out Bob Gillette on banjo in the Cinderella ad, so he added it. He also corrected the Easter Ball card, where they spelled Gennett as "Sennett".

The photos are in the Richardson Sloan Special Collections Center at the Davenport Public Library, part of the Bix Beiderbecke Museum's archives.

We got some samples for our new "Bix Signature" Collection of shirts and hats in. We think they look pretty good! You can get yourself one of these embroidered items on our online store at https://www.bixmuseum.org/bix-store/on-demand-items

Many people recognize the most famous photo of Bix, often a version with writing dedicated to George Johnson, the saxophonist of the Wolverines Orchestra. What you might not know is that the museum owns George's scrapbook from his time with the Wolverines as part of our archives, and today we are sharing a couple of photos from that scrapbook. Here is a photo of Wolverines clarinetist Jimmy Hartwell, also dedicated to George, and a photo of Hoagy Carmichael in Palm Beach in 1925. We'll be sharing more as we continue to digitize some of our archives.

The photos are located in the Richardson Sloan Special Collections Center at the Davenport Public Library as part of the Bix Beiderbecke Museum's archives.
