We are looking into music created in inspiration/honor/dedication of Bix as part of the museum's documentation of Bix's legacy. We are aware of the many tribute albums dedicated to Bix, featuring musicians performing arrangements of music Bix recorded or playing in a "Bixian" style, and we have documentation of most of them. What we are referring to is original compositions/recordings of work dedicated to, inspired by, or named after Bix. It doesn't necessarily have to be jazz music, as we know Bix has inspired many musicians over the decades.
Some examples we are referring to include:
"Stardust" - Hoagy Carmichael said at one point the song was in part inspired by listening to Bix's playing.
"Cloudy" - Charlie Davis claimed the song was originally composed by Bix but never written down, and Charlie had memorized it upon hearing Bix play it. It is more believed to be a piano piece Davis created in honor/inspiration of Bix.
"Dear Bix" - A piano composition created by Dave Frishberg
"Blues for Bix" - A song created by Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Band's saxophone player John Shober. The BBMJB played it often in live concerts.
"Bix Beiderbecke" - Song created by Japanese Jazz group PE'Z in homage to Bix's contribution to jazz and inspiration for Japanese musicians to pursue jazz music. The museum recently imported a copy of the album from Japan as part of this effort to document Bix's influence worldwide. A link to the song has been added to this post so people can see what we are searching for with this post.
Any help is appreciated, and if we can track down physical copies of the sheet music, records, CDs, etc., we would love to have them for archival purposes.
