The Rostraver humane case was horrifying. Pigs, cats and dogs lived in squalor, amongst filth and rats. Initially moved to a temporary hold, 10 got loose and ran wild. They were left behind, one severely injured, one blind, 2 babyless mommas and 3 mommaless babies. One momma willing to foster babies in need. All scared. 6 days of diligence…all are here with us. Yesterday was an absolutely exhausting day. When dedicated animal organizations come together to save the ones who missed the bus on the big rescue, amazing things happen. As you know, our new boy, Scar, was finally caught, and, as you know, he was severely injured. Just 2 hours after landing here, he was turned around and transported to Fix'N Wag'N where he was immediately seen. He has extremely deep wounds…a puncture wound, a deep gash, and an injury to his eye. Tissue necrosis had set in, so he was sedated, his wounds debrided and stitched, and heck they even threw in his castration while he was “out”. Our friends at Steel City Whisker Rescue cleaned stalls and cared for our residents, and I’m so grateful. Our vet student, Lydia, stepped up , too, and Savannah Jo transported Scar to the vet and back so I could check over the other 3 piggies, and Dr. Adam and Steven Pierce handled Scar’s surgery like the heroes they are. I’m happy to say everyone’s settling in to their temporary spaces well, and someone…even caught the cuddle bug! (Name suggestions welcome). We’re happy to announce that 4 of the 8 pigs who were left behind at their temporary location in the Rostraver pig case are here, and we’re working hard on catching the remaining 4. One of the pigs is severely wounded and is currently in surgery. Please keep him in your prayers…he’s a sweet boy who’s deserving of a beautiful life.

Our friends at Pigsburgh Squealers are amazing! We loaded and transported pigs for them on Monday, and are currently working on catching and caring for 8 who were left behind. Today, we brought 4 home, one is severely wounded and is headed to our vet. One is blind and we’re working hard to catch her. We also have a lot of work to do, and big bills to handle. Amber, from City Whiskers Rescue has helped us hold down the fort for us while we’re offsite. Please help all of our organizations by fostering, volunteering, and donating. Thank you!

We need you!! Our animals tale a special team of people to provide the care they need and deserve. Do you have the time and desire to help us with stall cleaning, farm chores and animal rescue? We ask for 8 hours per month for 6 months so that our residents always have relationships with their caregivers. It’s not for everyone…but if you’re an animal lover who wants to make a difference…this is your place!

Our ponds will never look sparkly and clear. They get so much use by our ducks, geese and pigs…the ducks love to swim, and dig in the sides for worms! And we added a special shelf for our piggies so they can swim and lounge around. Our ponds are spring fed and have constant flow of fresh water so they won’t ever get stagnant, but muddy they will always be! You know who else gets it tough? Domestic ducks. You know…those adorable little floofs at the farm stores every spring? The ones that show up at Easter? The ones that people aren’t prepared to care for once that cuteness has faded? (Ps-they’re forever cute, it doesn’t fade) The ones that make the stinky mess, who need protection from predators, who require veterinary care? Who end up being dumped at local ponds, lakes and rivers? Yep…ducks. They can’t live in the wild, they’re DOMESTIC ducks, which means they require care and safety from HUMANS! We have around 60 of them here, and we can’t take any more! We love ours…they’ve been rescued from all over…they have a/c and heat and 2 ponds and safe housing, but we’re full! So please do your research before you fall for those little fluff balls, and…pass…if you’re ot able to provide for them. They can’t live live 10+ years with proper care, and they’re great pets, highly recommended…but only if you can give them what g**y need.
