The Darien Foundation provides grants for technology and capital initiatives which create opportunity for Darien’s youth, support our town’s safety and security services, and enhance the overall quality of life.

We’re excited to announce a new generation of classroom technology is coming to Darien High School!✨

Thanks to a $298,000 grant, DHS classrooms will soon be equipped with interactive 4K ViewSonic smart boards—bringing the same innovative learning tools already in use at all five elementary schools and Middlesex Middle School. 🖥️📚

These state-of-the-art displays will give teachers new ways to present lessons and engage students, while allowing students to connect their own laptops, share ideas, solve problems, and collaborate in real time. 💡

The new technology will help create learning experiences that better reflect the classrooms, colleges, and workplaces students will encounter after graduation. 🎓🚀

As shown in these images, Darien High School students are already using ViewSonic panels to share presentations, research, and ideas with Darien elementary school students , creating opportunities for mentorship, leadership, and peer learning. 👏

By combining cutting-edge technology with traditional classroom tools, students and teachers will have the best of both worlds. Most classrooms will still feature whiteboards on the remaining walls, providing plenty of space for hands-on work, brainstorming, and group projects. ✍️

Shovel ready! 🪏 We’re excited to share that Darien Planning & Zoning has officially approved the Darien Land Trust’s plans for a new parking area and expanded trailhead at Olson Woods & Piacentini Preserve. 🙌

Funded through a grant from The Darien Foundation, this project will create welcoming public access from Hoyt Street to a beautiful network of trails winding through 16 acres of forest along the Noroton River. 🌳🦉

The initiative will make it easier for the community to explore, connect with nature, and enjoy one of Darien’s most ecologically rich open spaces for years to come. 💚

As part of the project, our $100,000 grant will fund:
♿️ ADA-accessible parking off Hoyt Street 
🗺️ Expanded trailhead with maps + benches 
📚 Educational signage + tree ID markers
🌿 Native plantings for stronger habitat
🪺 Nesting boxes for owls, bluebirds + bats
📸 Wildlife cameras for community learning

We’re proud to partner to make this beloved green space even more welcoming for all! We can’t wait to see this project come to life!

Checking out EMS Post-53’s new Special Operations Vehicle — New wheels, new equipment, same mission: supporting our first responders. 🫶

Known officially as Unit 318, the vehicle is currently being outfitted with emergency lights, GPS tracking, advanced medical and response equipment, and comms systems to serve as a flexible, fast-response resource to emergency crews.🚨

Readily deployable with supplies ranging from oxygen tanks to Gatorade, Unit 318 will expand Post 53’s capacity to provide on-site support to our volunteer firefighters, the Darien police, and fellow Posites at the scene of an accident on I-95 or a large house fire.

Funded in part by a $95,000 grant from The Darien Foundation, the Special Operations Vehicle Unit 318 will also act as a mobile support station at large-scale community events like the Memorial Day Parade or the July town fireworks.

Unit 318 will serve multiple roles, including:
🚑 Rapid medical response support
☎️ Incident command operations
🚒 Firefighter rehabilitation during extended incidents
⛑️ Supplemental EMS supervisory response

We look forward to the day the Special Operations Vehicle Unit 318 hits the streets this summer to play an important role in keeping responders safe, connected, and supported when they need it most. 💙

🎶 Bravissimo to the Middlesex Middle School Chorus and the Darien High School Orchestra, who each delivered spectacular concert performances last week! We are beyond impressed by the talent, passion, and artistry of these young musicians. ✨

We also want to shine a spotlight on the students working behind the scenes, who designed and programmed the dazzling graphic backdrops that brought the performances to life. 🎨💻

Seeing students collaborate across music, technology, and visual design in such creative ways is both inspiring and rewarding. 💫

The interactive video wall backdrop was funded through a 2024 grant from the The Darien Foundation.

And there’s more excitement ahead 👀 We’ll soon be announcing another innovative technology grant for Darien High School — stay tuned! 🚀

We are so proud of our Outstanding Volunteer, Paige Kyle! 👏👏👏
The Darien Foundation honors Paige as our Outstanding Volunteer 🏆 for being such an impactful board member in 2025 and throughout her tenure.

Whether it’s putting in extra time on the committees that implement our grant initiatives or her outreach to form community connections, Paige Kyle continues to positively impact The Darien Foundation and our mission in Darien.🌟 We are truly grateful for her time and talent.🙏

Happy Earth Day 🌎 We are proud to spotlight three of our grant partners who are helping protect, preserve, and connect our community to the natural world:

🌳 Darien Land Trust
$100,000 | Olson Woods & Piacentini Preserve Access Initiative
A new trailhead will expand access so more Darien residents and families can explore, learn, and enjoy this beautiful 16-acre nature preserve.

🦉 Darien Nature Center
$100,000 | Pond & Forest Habitats
A transformed animal room will provide naturalistic habitats for their many animals, while educating and inspiring the next generation of environmental stewards.

🐦 Darien Community Association
$51,700 | Bird Sanctuary & Nature Trail
The four-acre sanctuary for birds, butterflies, bees, and so many flowers serves as a small forest oasis that is open to the public year-round, from dawn-to-dusk.

Together, these initiatives are highlighting the beauty of our environment and making it more accessible for all. 🌱💚

Have you heard about the new Teen & Tween Center that will transform ’s Lower Level into a state-of-the-art, dedicated learning and discovery space for ages 12 to 18? 💡

The Darien Foundation is proud to support this innovative project as the first and lead donor.

“We’ve gotten suggestions from parents whose kids go to the Library’s Teen Lounge regularly that The Darien Foundation should look into augmenting the space,” said The Darien Foundation’s Board Chair Ward Glassmeyer.

“Investing in the future of Darien’s youth is at the core of our mission to move Darien Forward.” 💚💙

This initiative will provide local youth with an inspiring, welcoming, and technology-infused “third space designed specifically for teens. 🔥
