Helping Darien Seniors live independently, comfortably and with dignity in their own home and the community as long as possible. Available weekdays 9 a.m. Free.

Services Offered:

TRANSPORTATION FOR SENIORS

Enjoy door-to-door transportation in our 4- passenger sedan or our 5-passenger handicap-accessible minivan. to 4 p.m., serving Darien, Stamford, New Canaan and Norwalk destinations. The service is free but many riders choose to make a contribution of $5 per round trip ride. Transportation to medical appointments should be booked at least 48 hours in advance. Call 203-655-2227 to arrange your ride. REFERRALS TO VETTED SERVICE PROVIDERS

We continually check out service providers, including handymen, electricians, plumbers, painters, bookkeepers, computer wizards, appliance repairmen and more. The referral service is free, and many vetted service providers offer discounted rates to Seniors. ADVICE AND RESPOURCE FOR SENIORS

As you get older, new questions come up all the time. how to apply for property tax deferral? Who can help with your medical insurance? Where to borrow a walker? ASK US! Call 203-655-2227 and we will get you the answers you need and correct you to the right resources. VOLUNTEER SERVICES

Friendly Drivers - offer transportation to and from locations we don't service, at hours we don't operate, or when you need someone to accompany you to an appointment. Our volunteers are safe drivers who use their own cars. All have a valid driver's license and sufficient personal insurance. Friendly Visitors - make home visits to Darien Seniors, providing regular companionship and support. You and your Friendly Visitor can decide together on your activities. You can play cards, read aloud, or just chat. Friendly Shoppers - run errands or grocery shop for homebound Seniors on a regular basis or as needed when a temporary issue prevents you from getting about. Friendly Helpers - take care of small tasks in a Senior's home, like changing a light bulb or replacing the battery in your smoke alarm. SENIOR NEWS YOU CAN USE

SENIOR DAY AT DARIEN SWAP SHOP

Tuesday, October 20th, Darien Swap Shop. To reserve your spot or learn more, call At Home in Darien at (203) 655-2227 or email [email protected].
On October 20th and continuing on the third Tuesday of every month, special times will be set aside for seniors to enjoy shopping at the Swap Shop. Seniors can reserve one of the following 30-minute time slots: 10:00am to 10:30am; 10:40am to 11:10am; 11:20am to 11:50am.

Please note:
Parking is limited to 12 vehicles per time slot.
All participants must have a current dump sticker to enter the transfer station.
Seniors must sign up with At Home in Darien to schedule their visit.
In case of inclement weather, the Swap Shop will be closed. The rain date will be the following Tuesday.

OUT AND ABOUT EATS: RORYS

Wednesday, October 21st at 11:30am, 416 Boston Post Rd., Darien. Cost for lunch is $26, which includes meal, soft drinks, tax and tip. Call At Home in Darien at 203-655-2227 to reserve your spot and request transportation if necessary.

Come enjoy great food, a welcoming pub atmosphere, and plenty of good conversation with friends — both new and old. Join At Home In Darien on Wednesday, October 21st for a delicious afternoon at Darien staple Rory’s! Choose from a special menu featuring favorites such as fish & chips, grilled Atlantic salmon over a caesar salad, chicken with lemon white w**e & dill Sauce over rice and vegetables, or Mom’s classic meatloaf with mashed potatoes and vegetables.

PICKLEBALL EVENT

Join us for an exciting Pickleball event to support At Home in Darien! Every dollar raised helps us support Darien seniors with rides, services and activities to better enable them to remain in their homes and stay socially connected. Tickets include open play, lessons by the pros, delicious food, snacks, b**r, w**e, soft drinks and prizes.

We are excited to share that At Home in Darien has been selected to be a part of the Stop & Shop Community Bag Program, which is designed to make it easy for customers to contribute to their local community while supporting the environment.

For the month of October, each time a $2.50 reusable Community Bag is purchased at the Stop & Shop located in the Goodwives Shopping Center in Darien, $1 will be donated to At Home in Darien.

We had a wonderful afternoon at our Annual Luncheon on September 24th! We are so grateful to the Darien Community Association for co-hosting over 100 seniors at this event that allowed participants to connect with old friends and form new friendships.

Our Executive Director Chris Jones updated the crowd on our new branding and programming, including Out and About Eats and Out and About Trips.

At Home in Darien will once again be holding its Annual Luncheon, co-sponsored by our friends at the Darien Community Association.

The event will include a delicious lunch served by members of At Home In Darien’s staff and Board of Directors, and will feature a special guest speaker (details are currently being finalized and will be announced prior to the event). Don’t miss this annual favorite! Check in begins at 11:00am, and a complimentary lunch will begin at 11:30am. Space is limited. Please respond early to ensure a seat at this popular event.

Our popular Summer Beach Party is back! Co-sponsored by The Mather Center and Seniors Helping Seniors, this annual gathering is the perfect way to enjoy a summer afternoon by the water.
