IAFF Local 5416 The Whitfield Professional Firefighters Association, Inc.

is the entity formed in 2023 to establish the local chapter 5416 affiliate of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF). The International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) is the driving force behind nearly every advance in the fire and emergency services in the 21st century and represents more than 334,000 full-time professional fire fighters and paramedics in more than 3,500 affiliates. International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) members protect more than 85 percent of the population in communities throughout the United States and Canada. The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) is also one of the most active lobbying organizations in Washington, DC. - its Political Action Committee, FIREPAC, is among the top one-half of one percent of all federally registered PACs in the country. Membership in the local IAFF 5416 is restricted to current full-time employees of the Whitfield County Fire Department and its retirees and is organized to advocate and ensure the safe working conditions, equitable treatment and fair and just compensation and benefits of the members of Whitfield County Fire Department. The local IAFF 5416 serves to protect the interests of its members, their families and the community they serve through professional bargaining, charitable networking, public safety education and cultivation of relationships among its membership, local government authorities and stakeholders in the community.

As colder temperatures make their way into Whitfield County, we’re coming together to help keep our neighbors warm this winter.

We are happy to announce our participation in an upcoming Cold Weather Clothing Drive!

November 6th – December 4th

Drop-off Locations: All 12 Whitfield County Fire Stations

We’re collecting new or gently used cold-weather essentials, including coats, jackets, hats, gloves, scarves, warm socks, and hand warmers. Donations of all ages and sizes are welcome!

All donations will benefit Whitfield County Schools and Greater Dalton Works, helping get these items into the hands of those who need them most.

Donations will begin being accepted Friday, November 6th.

Please see the attached flyers for details and drop-off locations.

A small act of kindness can make a big difference for someone facing the cold this winter.

As October comes to a close, we’re sharing a look at our apparatus responses and activity throughout the month. Your Whitfield County Professional Firefighters responded to 497 incidents and completed 806 apparatus responses, including fires, medical emergencies, hazardous situations, rescues, and public service calls.

With November rolling in, so do the colder temperatures. As we begin turning on our heaters and preparing for the colder months ahead, we’d like to remind everyone of a few important fire safety tips:

Heating Safety

• Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn, including furniture, blankets, and curtains.
• Never leave space heaters running unattended.
• Plug space heaters directly into wall outlets, never extension cords or power strips!
• Have fireplaces, chimneys, and heating systems inspected and maintained regularly.

Time Change Reminder

With daylight saving time coming to an end, now is a great opportunity to test your smoke alarms!

• Test all smoke alarms to ensure they’re working properly.
• Replace batteries when needed.
• Replace smoke alarms that are 10 years old or older.
• Make sure you have working smoke alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms, and outside sleeping areas.

A few minutes of prevention can make all the difference in an emergency.

Whitfield Professional Firefighters Association IAFF Local 5416

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to the citizens of Whitfield County for your continued support of your firefighters and emergency responders.

During the month of September, Whitfield County Fire Department personnel responded to 493 incidents and completed 796 apparatus responses, serving our community through fires, medical emergencies, hazardous situations, rescues, public service calls, and other emergency responses. These numbers reflect the dedication, professionalism, and commitment of the men and women who answer the call every day.

As we move into October, we enter one of the busiest and most important fire prevention seasons of the year. Fire Prevention Month provides an opportunity to educate our community on fire safety, smoke alarms, escape planning, and reducing fire risks at home and in the workplace.

Additionally, the state-mandated burn ban will be lifted on October 1, allowing outdoor burning activities to resume where permitted. We encourage all citizens to burn responsibly, follow local regulations, and remain mindful of weather and environmental conditions.

To our firefighters and emergency personnel: thank you for your continued hard work, sacrifice, and unwavering dedication to protecting the citizens of Whitfield County.
