Finishing Well Ministries

Finishing Well Ministries We believe that growing older is not a period of decline but a season of unique opportunity to continue serving God, others, and the world around us.

Through our curricula, resources, digital presence, and community engagement, we seek to encourage. As we seek to live life from God's perspective and to glorify Him, we purpose to maximize the spiritual impact of an older generation of men and women as disciples in the local church and for the kingdom of God! Together, we will grow well, connect well, care well, and invest well into the lives of

each other, into the generations following us, and into the life of our local church. One may retire from an occupation, but a disciple of Christ never retires from being the greatest impact for the kingdom that one could be. We believe one's impact for Christ ought to be continually compelling in life and in the local church throughout the final decades of life. God calls us to a different vision of life than the one painted by our culture. He wants us to invest in things that are eternal, using the latter years of the Abrahams, Joshuas, Calebs, Ruths, Annas, Pauls and Johns of the Scriptures as our role models.

At age 80, Moses was entrusted with leading Israel out of Egypt. Despite his failures, including striking the rock at Meribah (Numbers 20), Moses pressed on to fulfill his purpose. One of his final tasks was completing Joshua's training and commissioning him to lead Israel into the promised land.

Then Moses called to Joshua and said to him in the sight of all Israel, "Be strong and courageous, for you shall go with this people into the land which the Lord has sworn to their fathers to give them, and you shall give it to them as an inheritance." (Deuteronomy 31.7)
God completed Moses' life with a personal burial. What a picture of beauty. God was pleased with His servant's life of 120 years.

Our identity in Christ, a popular Podcast!
Today's podcast is with Vicki, and I recorded it on August 14, 2023. The topic is our “Identity.” It is our most-listened-to podcast of the 178 we’ve recorded. I think it is still one of the most critical issues of life and of our advancing years. Who are we? What does our identity of being “in Christ” mean in terms of growing older? What is life “in Christ” all about? Here it is again, just as we recorded it then. I hope you’ll enjoy it again.

Jesus called Peter and John away from their work as fishermen to follow Him and become "fishers of men" (Matthew 4.18-22). Though we don't know their exact ages when called, Christ's call on their lives was a lifelong commitment.

Tragically, after Jehoiada's death, Joash turned away from God and even had Jehoiada's son Zechariah executed when he prophesied against the king's unfaithfulness. This reminds us that while we can have tremendous influence, each person must ultimately make their own choices before God.

From Study to Movement: How the Seven Essentials Spark Ongoing Ministry

One of the most encouraging outcomes of the “Seven Essentials for Finishing Well” study is that it rarely stays confined to a single group or short-term experience. Instead, it often becomes a catalyst—igniting a broader vision for how a church can intentionally engage and mobilize its older adult population.

What begins as a study frequently evolves into something much larger: a sustained ministry focus on finishing well.

God revealed to Samuel the judgment that He would carry out on Eli because he did not rebuke his sons (1 Samuel 3.10-14). When the Philistines defeated Israel and captured the ark of God, both of Eli's sons were killed. Upon hearing the news, Eli fell backward from his seat, broke his neck, and died at age 98.

The tragedy extended to the next generation 3 Eli's daughter-in-law died in childbirth, naming her son Ichabod, saying, "The glory has departed from Israel."

Our story regarding Eli begins not with Eli but with God's judge who will succeed him. God's successor to Eli will be the great prophet/judge Samuel so we begin with his birth and background.

Hal Habecker reflects on the lessons from David's life, emphasizing the importance of finishing well. He discusses David's list of 30 friends who shaped his life and the significance of maintaining connections. Hal highlights David's sin of numbering Israel, which led to a pestilence and 70,000 deaths, and his subsequent repentance.

He also addresses David's failure to name Solomon as his successor, leading to Adonijah's proclamation as king. Habecker stresses the need for accountability, planning for future generations, and continuous worship. He concludes by encouraging listeners to learn from David's mistakes and strive to finish their lives well. CLICK AND LEARN MORE

David numbered Israel with sobering consequences. His heart troubled him after he had numbered the people, and he said to the Lord, "I have sinned greatly in what I have done." (2 Samuel 24.10)
