தமிழின் "கதவு" என்னும் சொல், ஆங்கிலத்தில் "door" என வழங்கப்படுகிறது. இச்சொல், ஆங்கிலத்தில் மட்டுமின்றி ‘thyra’ in Greek, ‘thur’ in German, ‘tor’ in Old High German, ‘daur’ in Gothic, ‘dvara’ in Sanskrit என்றவாறு வழங்குவதைக் கால்டுவெல் உறவுபடுத்தியுள்ளார். மேற்குறிப்பிட்ட சொற்கள் அனைத்தையும் ஓர் மொழிக்குடும்பச் சொல் உறவாகவே கீழை-மேலை இந்தோ-ஐரோப்பிய வேர்ச்சொல் அகராதிகள் காட்டுகின்றன.

வெட்டுதல் எனப் பொருள் படும் "துமி" என்னும் பழந்தமிழ்ச் சொல்லே இரண்டு எனப்பொருள் படும் "துவார" என்னும் சமற்கிருதச் சொல்லிற்கும், "door" என்னும் ஆங்கிலச் சொல்லிற்கும் மூலம் என்பதை விளக்கும் முனைவர் கு.அரசேந்திரனாரின் பொழிவு இது. (2014ஆம் ஆண்டு செம்மொழித் தமிழாய்வு நடுவண் நிறுவனத்திற்கு முனைவர் கு.அரசேந்திரன் அளித்த ஆய்வேட்டில் இப்பொழிவின் விரிவைக் காணலாம்)

The Tamil word "கதவு-kathavu" is door in English . According to Robert Caldwell, English word "door", Greek word "thyra", German word "thur", Old high German word "tor", Gothic word "daur" and Sanskrit word "dvara" are cognate.The East and West Indo-European etymological dictionaries stated that above words were originated from one language family.

An antediluvian Tamil word "tumi - துமி", denoting "vettuthal-வெட்டுதல்" cutting, gave birth to the west Indo-European word tumi-thuvi-tuva denoting "two" and to the East Indo-European word "duvara" denoting door. In this webinar, Dr.G.Arasendiran will be presenting his etymological research findings on the word "door". 1. 'Eye’ - சொல் வரலாறு - The etymology of the word ‘Eye’:

“ஆங்கிலத்தில் 'eye' என்னும் சொல் கண்ணைக் குறிக்கும். இது இலத்தீன் சொல்லான _oculus_ வழிப் பிறந்ததை மேலை மொழி ஆய்வுநூல் ஆய்ந்துள்ளது. மேலும் சமற்கிருதச் சொல்லான _akshi_ (கண்) என்பதோடும் உறவு படுத்தியுள்ளது. இந்த akshi மற்றும் oculus என்னும் சொற்கள் தமிழின் குளம் என்னும் சொல்லின் வழிப் பிறந்ததைத் தன் ஆய்வில் கண்ட அரசேந்திரனாரின் eye பற்றியதே இப்பொழிவு. (குல் - குளம் - oculus - eye) “

The word 'eye' is believed to be derived from the Latin word _oculus_ and is related to the Sanskrit word _Akshi_ meaning the eye. Prof.Arasendiran’
s current work provides crucial evidence to show that both _Akshi_ and _oculus_ are derived from the ancient and classical language *Tamil*. In this webinar he will be presenting his significant research findings.
