Hearts & Bones Rescue Welcome! We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit rescue organization dedicated to saving lives.

Hearts & Bones is a foster-based rescue focused on providing all of our dogs with loving temporary homes while they search for their forever families. Our rescue base is in Texas, which has one of the highest euthanasia rates in the country for shelter animals. We work with overburdened shelters in the Dallas area every day to save as many dogs as we can and place them into foster homes. We then r

un lifesaving transports to our adoptions hub in New York City, where all of our dogs are cared for by wonderful fosters while we match them up with their forever homes!

Come meet Coconut this Sunday at Pet Club - Pet Supply in Brooklyn!

Meet adoptable Coconut, a 5 month old, 18 lb Australian Shepherd / Cattle Dog mix girl with a sweet little face and a belly-rub-based approach to friendship.

Coconut truly loves people. Everyone she meets is a potential new bestie, and she is always happy to roll over and request some well-earned belly rubs. She has been great with all the humans she has met so far and is such a friendly, affectionate little pup.

She also wants to say hi to every dog she sees on walks. If another dog barks, she can get a little nervous, but does well with cues from her human. She has done very well with lots of noise, animals, and construction - a true city gal in the making!

Meet adoptable Baked Potato, a 3 year old, 8 lb Poodle mix that hails from our friends at the ACC!

Baked Potato came to us from the NYC municipal shelter, where he was extremely shut down and too scared to let anyone handle him. The shelter can be a loud and scary place for a lot of dogs. Once he left the shelter and had a chance to feel safe, his real personality came shining through: mild-mannered, sweet, gentle, and very easy to love.

Now in foster care, Baked Potato is proving what a good little companion he is. He is housebroken, excellent on leash, good with other dogs, and will sit for a treat like the smart kiddo he is. He is happy to nap near his people, curl up in a lap when invited, or hang out independently in his bed or crate while his foster works.

His favorite things include belly rubs, giving kisses, plush toys, squeaky toys, and making himself right at home. He even tolerated a bath and comb-out like a gentleman.

Baked Potato just needed a chance to feel safe, and now he is ready for the forever home he deserves.

Foster Needed for smol-eared Chief starting Saturday, August 22! ✨✨

Meet adoptable Chief, an approximately 1 year old, 39 lb mixed breed boy with smol ears, a huge heart, and very respectable manners. This sweet boy unfortunately found him in a municipal shelter for a very long time as a young puppy due to no fault of his own. We think it’s about time he finds his forever home!

Chief is adorable, social, and so much fun. He is always happy to have a visitor (strangers? no problem), and loves to play and cuddle. He loves toys, loves playing ball, and already knows sit, which is always a very good-boy credential.

He is also good on leash and pottied immediately when he got outside, so we’re thinking he has some really great life skills already. Chief is playful, affectionate, medium energy, and ready for a foster home where he can keep learning, playing, and being the super fun pup he clearly is.

Meet Pine, a scruffy gal that is looking for her forever home! She is an approximately 4 year old mixed breed pup that weighs in around 37lbs. Shes actually quite compact and short, which we think makes her even cuter.

Pine is house trained, crate trained, quiet, and has a persistent tail wag when a human comes to say hello. She coexists excellently with other dogs and definitely is accustomed to living in a home.

Pine’s fosters report that she’s a true angel that hasn’t caused any trouble. What a good girl 🩷

Meet Lumi, our in-house model - windswept hair and all. This beautiful gal is an approximately 3 year old scruffy mixed breed that weighs in at 68lbs. This gal is beauty and grace; as models are, she was perfect on a busy sidewalk this past weekend at our Petco Union Square event! Lumi is great with other dogs, loves meeting new people, and is not beyond putting her head on your shoulder while watching people pass by 🥺.

Lumi is doing a great job learning about how to live in a home. She may need a few minutes to get comfortable in new surroundings, but with some gentle direction from her foster human, she’s picking things up quickly! We love seeing her learn and grow everyday.

“Hi! Do you have small dogs?” We get this question frequently. At Hearts & Bones, we rescue dogs of all sizes - from 1lb small nursing puppies to 150lb+ Great Danes!

In terms of smol dogs, this is Hank, a 6 year old mixed breed that is indeed quite smol. He loves to go on daily walks, hang with his doggie friends, and is a very happy boy.

We might’ve died laughing at Ta**us’s joke, but not before he also died laughing at his own joke 😭😭

This is adoptable Ta**us and he is literally the happiest boy EVER! He’s been overlooked in the municipal shelter for a long, long time, and we can’t really fathom why. Well, let’s help him find his long-deserved forever home!

Ta**us is an approximately 8 month old Pyrenees(?) mix(?) that weighs in at 49lbs. In addition to being utterly hilarious, he has a perfect sit and is just happy to be near his dog and human friends. Did we mention that this good boy LOVES babies? He wants to be close to them and treats them so gently 🥹🥹
