🚜 Culpeper Board Update: Ensuring Fair Property Taxation 💼
At our latest Board of Supervisors meeting, we took an important step toward ensuring our local tax policies are applied fairly and transparently across the county.
The Board voted unanimously (7-0) to adopt an ordinance amendment to Chapter 12 (Taxation) of the Culpeper County Code.
While tax code language can sound dry and highly technical—involving the repeal of Sec. 12-18(b) and the renumbering of Sec. 12-18(c)—the real-world impact is very straightforward.
➡️ What this change does:
This amendment completely eliminates the ability for industrially zoned land to receive the land use tax deduction.
➡️ Why this matters to our community:
The land use program is a vital tool designed to protect and support our local agricultural, horticultural, and forest lands. It was never intended to subsidize industrial properties.
By closing this loophole, we are protecting the integrity of the program, ensuring everyone pays their fair share based on how their land is zoned, and keeping our county's fiscal structure balanced.
Tax fairness and transparency are essential for a stronger Culpeper.
