Last Thursday night, our club participated in the always much anticipated fair night with the Margaret Jean Jones Center. It is an event that our club looks forward to every year. It’s a time for some to see friends they’ve known for years and also a night where new friendships are formed.

Anyone interested in visiting a club meeting, please reach out to a Rotarian. Meetings are noon every Thursday at St. John’s Church in Cullman.

Today the Cullman Rotary club held its annual golf outing at Terri Pines Country Club. Some of us look forward to this week all year. Fun and fellowship was had by all. There was even some discussion on making it a biannual event.

If you’re interested in joining Rotary and joining us on the course next year, reach out to a Rotarian and come to one of our weekly meetings. The meetings are noon most every Thursday at St. John’s Church.

This week, we had the honor of sheriff Matt Gentry speak at this week’s meeting. He spoke about the current events of Cullman and what his department does to keep everyone in our community safe. Don’t forget he is moving on from the sheriff’s office the the next office.

The city clerk of Cullman, Wesley Moore, spoke at our meeting today. His message was clear, shop local. We learned that when you order something delivered to your house, the tax revenue bypasses the city of Cullman and goes straight to Montgomery. However, if you order online and pick it up at the store, the city of Cullman gets the tax revenue. If you order Walmart online, pick it up at the store to ensure our money stays in Cullman.

If you want your money to stay local, shop local.

We had the privilege of Archie Hand speaking at our weekly meeting today. He started Send Me Ministries, an organization that is dedicated to ministering to the underprivileged of Southern Mexico. The main focus is how the power of education and Jesus can transform a community.

Today at our weekly meeting we had Lt. Jonathon Bartlett and Officer Jordan Kennedy from the Alabama Department of Conservation as our featured speakers. They spoke about hunting season and how their department funds conservation around the state.

Also, they spoke of educating the general public about hunting, fishing, fi***rm safety, and cooking wild game. For more information check out the Outdoor Alabama Academy below.

Cullman Rotary’s football commissioner took to the podium today for the preseason press conference. Every year the Cullman Rotary Club has football pick’em competition. There are three teams that compete all football season for bragging rights. At the end of the season, we have an awards banquet at our weekly meeting. First Place team gets steak. Second place team gets chicken. The season losers get nothing but beans.

For anyone interested in joining, talk to a Rotarian. We meet every Thursday for lunch and fellowship.

At this week’s meeting, we had Callie Smith from Cullman County Department of Human Resources as our speaker. Callie is the foster care supervisor for Cullman County. She spoke about the foster care system here locally and statewide. There are approximately 6,000 children in foster care with only about 3,300 foster homes. Alabama needs more foster parents.

This week we had Molly Bloom, the curator of the Cullman County Museum, speak at our weekly meeting. She spoke about Cullman history and exciting updates coming for the Cullman County Museum. We would like to extend our thanks for being our weekly speaker.

Our club really enjoyed hearing from Travis Sharpe, founder of Unsheltered International, at our meeting yesterday. His heart to share Jesus and help the unsheltered with immediate needs is such important work and we are thankful he’s willing to do it.
