Yesterday, the Cullman Rotary Club heard about the Helping Families Initiative. Cortney Myrex, a representative from the Cullman District Attorney’s office, explained how the program is focused on preventing future crimes by helping the younger members of our community. Last week, Dr. George Lyrene spoke to the club. Dr. Lyrene felt the call leading him into ministry. He began to participate in Kairos prison ministry. Since then, Dr. Lyrene has focused on helping people who society had forgotten about or been cast out. We would like to extend a thank you for Dr. Lyrene coming to speak to us.

This month, the Rotary District 6860 presented awards and citations to local clubs. The Cullman Rotary Club received recognition for the following:

2025-2026 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards;

2025 Boiling and Bragging Citation;

District Vibrant Club Citation;

2nd place Club Service (Large Club Division);

2nd place Vocational Service Award(Large Club Division);

3rd place Community Service (Large Club Division);

2nd place International Service (Large Club Division);

1st place Youth Service (Large Club Division); and

3rd place Best Use of Social Media Award (Large Club Division).

This week a local Rotarian, was awarded the Tom Milford Service Above Self Award. The award is awarded annually at the District 6860 conference. The award recognizes a Rotarian who has exemplified “Service above Self” during the Rotary year. Nominees are considered based on evidence of Service above Self, Community Service, Role Model for other Rotarians, and Legacy to the Community.

Today, our featured presentation was a team from People’s Bank discussing fraud and fraud prevention. Their presentation centered around modern ways scammers try to take advantage of unsuspecting and vulnerable people. Also, they presented several informative things to look for to help identify fraud. We would really like to thank them for coming to speak and help educating the community on ways to avoid being the victim of a crime.

Today, the Cullman Rotary Club got a sneak peek what is soon to be the new home of the North Alabama Agriplex. Our speaker before the tour was Executive Director, Rachel Dawsey. Rachel was invited to speak by Cullman Rotarian, Jeb Williamson.

The North Alabama Agriplex served 26 counties in Alabama with 23,677 Alabamians participating. The Agriplex “focuses on cultivating a community passionate about preserving our agricultural heritage, educating and feeding our neighbors, and growing a sustainable future.” For more information, please visit
