Today at our weekly meeting we had Lt. Jonathon Bartlett and Officer Jordan Kennedy from the Alabama Department of Conservation as our featured speakers. They spoke about hunting season and how their department funds conservation around the state.

Also, they spoke of educating the general public about hunting, fishing, firearm safety, and cooking wild game. For more information check out the Outdoor Alabama Academy below.

Cullman Rotary’s football commissioner took to the podium today for the preseason press conference. Every year the Cullman Rotary Club has football pick’em competition. There are three teams that compete all football season for bragging rights. At the end of the season, we have an awards banquet at our weekly meeting. First Place team gets steak. Second place team gets chicken. The season losers get nothing but beans.

For anyone interested in joining, talk to a Rotarian. We meet every Thursday for lunch and fellowship.

At this week’s meeting, we had Callie Smith from Cullman County Department of Human Resources as our speaker. Callie is the foster care supervisor for Cullman County. She spoke about the foster care system here locally and statewide. There are approximately 6,000 children in foster care with only about 3,300 foster homes. Alabama needs more foster parents.

Our club really enjoyed hearing from Travis Sharpe, founder of Unsheltered International, at our meeting yesterday. His heart to share Jesus and help the unsheltered with immediate needs is such important work and we are thankful he’s willing to do it.

Yesterday, the Cullman Rotary Club heard about the Helping Families Initiative. Cortney Myrex, a representative from the Cullman District Attorney’s office, explained how the program is focused on preventing future crimes by helping the younger members of our community. Last week, Dr. George Lyrene spoke to the club. Dr. Lyrene felt the call leading him into ministry. He began to participate in Kairos prison ministry. Since then, Dr. Lyrene has focused on helping people who society had forgotten about or been cast out. We would like to extend a thank you for Dr. Lyrene coming to speak to us.

2025-2026 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards;

2025 Boiling and Bragging Citation;

District Vibrant Club Citation;

2nd place Club Service (Large Club Division);

2nd place Vocational Service Award(Large Club Division);

3rd place Community Service (Large Club Division);

2nd place International Service (Large Club Division);

1st place Youth Service (Large Club Division); and

3rd place Best Use of Social Media Award (Large Club Division).
