SCDCL was proud to join our LIUNA family including LIUNA Pacific Southwest, the Laborers Training School, LECET Southwest, and our industry partners at the United Contractors Public Works Summit, bringing together contractors, public agencies, labor leaders, and infrastructure stakeholders who are committed to strengthening California’s workforce and future.

The conversations throughout the day reinforced a simple truth: when labor, industry, education, and government work together, we build safer projects, stronger communities, and greater opportunities for the people of California.

By building relationships, investing in our members, and working toward shared goals, we continue moving projects forward and creating family sustaining careers across California.

Together We Build.

SCDCL was proud to once again support the Tierra del Sol Foundation Golf Tournament alongside our partners at LIUNA Locals 300, 585, 652, and 724, as well as Pacific Southwest Administrators (PSWA) and TDA.

Since this tournament began, our Laborers family and partners have helped raise more than $500,000 through golf tournament participation and support for Tierra del Sol, an organization dedicated to creating pathways to employment, independence, education, and opportunity for adults with developmental disabilities.

This year’s event was especially meaningful as Tierra del Sol honored former SCDCL Business Manager and former LIUNA Local 300 Business Manager Mike Quevedo Jr. Mike’s connection to Tierra was deeply personal. Alongside his wife Rebecca, he was a tireless advocate for individuals with disabilities, inspired by the experiences of their children, Elizabeth and Michael, who participated in Tierra’s programs for many years.

As highlighted during the event, Mike helped rally labor leaders, elected officials, and community partners in support of Tierra’s mission, helping ensure that generations of individuals and families would have access to the opportunities and support they deserve.

At SCDCL, we are proud to continue supporting organizations that create opportunity, strengthen communities, and remind us that every person deserves the chance to contribute, succeed, and belong.

Feel the Power!

This Sunday, LIUNA showed up in force in Long Beach for Xavier Becerra!  Don’t forget to VOTE TODAY and make your voice heard.

Members from across SCDCL, LIUNA Local 1309 and LIUNA Local 300 came together alongside our working families, community leaders, and supporters for a packed rally with a sea of orange supporting one of our own, Xavier Becerra!

As the son of a proud retired LIUNA Laborer, Xavier Becerra followed in his father’s footsteps, working as a Laborer while attending college before embarking on a career of public service and now running for Governor of California.

The message is clear, working people matter, Labor matters, and our voices matter.

We’re proud to stand with Xavier Becerra. Proud to show up. Proud to represent the Laborers.

LIUNA members, working families, community leaders, and supporters came together in Ventura County to support Xavier Becerra and help build momentum for California’s future.

SCDCL and our LIUNA Locals were proud to help organize and support an evening focused on working people, opportunity, and bringing labor voices together from across the region.

From apprentices and retirees to elected leaders and union members, the message was clear: working families deserve leadership that understands labor, respects the trades, and fights for opportunity.

DON’T FORGET TO VOTE! California’s Primary Election is scheduled for June 2, 2026.

On May 1, 2026, we gathered to honor the achievements of the 2025 graduating class of the Laborers Training School apprenticeship programs. 788 LIUNA members reached Journeyperson status through dedication, sacrifice, and hard work.

Featuring remarks from Jon P. Preciado, Chairman of the Laborers Training & Retraining Trust Fund and Business Manager of SCDCL, alongside California Governor candidate and former U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services Xavier Becerra, this ceremony displayed the pride, opportunity, and life-changing impact of apprenticeship and union careers.

Graduates from across our LIUNA family share what this accomplishment means to them, supporting their families, building California, and creating a future through LIUNA.

Congratulations to the 2025 graduating class. The future is built by skilled labor, and LIUNA continues to lead the way.

The Laborers Training School Alumni Dinner brought together graduates, families, instructors, our labor leaders, industry partners, and special guests to celebrate the journeys behind the hard hats.

Throughout the night, alumni speakers representing LIUNA Locals from across the Southern California District Council of Laborers shared stories of growth, sacrifice, opportunity, and the impact apprenticeship training and union careers have had on their lives and families. From buying homes and supporting children to building careers and finding purpose, these stories show what opportunity can create when people are given the tools to succeed.

We were honored to welcome special guests Sandra Armenta, Mayor of Rosemead, and Anthony Rendon, former Speaker of the California State Assembly and candidate for California Superintendent of Public Instruction, during the evening’s program.

As Jon P. Preciado shared during the program:
“We don’t build buildings. We build craftspeople.”

Congratulations to all of the alumni continuing to build stronger futures for themselves, their families, and our industry.

SCDCL and LIUNA were proud to join leaders from across industry, labor, logistics, development, and public agencies coming together at the inaugural BIG 4 Regional Summit hosted by the cities of Commerce, Industry, Vernon, and Santa Fe Springs.

The summit brought together elected officials, city leadership, economic development teams, developers, logistics professionals, workforce partners, and industry leaders focused on strengthening one of the nation’s most important industrial areas through business-friendly policies, infrastructure investment, and regional collaboration.

Tim Jemal, CEO of the Supply Chain Federation and NAIOP SoCal, discusses economic development, regional collaboration, and the future of Southern California’s industrial and logistics network including the importance of working alongside organized labor and recognizing LIUNA as a key partner moving Southern California forward.

We were part of the conversation, continuing to build partnerships that move projects forward and creating opportunities for working people across Southern California.

Keep an eye out for the “Industrial Ecosystem of Southern California” research paper from Beacon Economics, Pepperdine University School of Public Policy, and NAIOP SoCal examining the economic impact and regional importance of Southern California’s industrial and logistics sector.

Building Southern California Together.

This May Day, we stood together in solidarity with the effort to organize at Knott’s Berry Farm.

Adrian A. Esparza, Business Manager of LIUNA Local 652, joined his agents, members, SCDCL organizers, and staff in support of the people working every day behind the scenes to keep Knott’s moving.

From maintenance and landscaping to the essential work that keeps operations running, every person deserves respect, opportunity, and a pathway to the middle class.

May Day represents the ongoing fight for dignity on the job, fair wages, safe working conditions, and the right for working people to stand together and have a voice.

That is what the Southern California District Council of Laborers and LIUNA stand for: creating opportunity, protecting working families, and building a stronger future through union labor.

When Laborers stand together, we move working people forward.

SCDCL, working this time with LIUNA Local 1184, continues to move projects forward.

In Imperial Valley, our members showed up in force, standing with our development partners to build the pathway that moves projects forward and creates opportunities to work.

When SCDCL brings together labor, contractors, and developers, projects get done. That’s what it means to be Your Workforce Solution.

To our contractors and developers:
The workforce is here. We’re ready.
