Our service mission is threefold:
•To create environments promoting recovery, personal responsibility, and mutual self-help;
•To help communities prevent and reduce alcohol, other drugs, and mental health-related problems through positive social change, and;
•To share research and knowledge through training, consultation, and educational initiatives. To achieve success, our financial mission is:
•To maintain fiscal strength which ensures quality, growth, and the ability to serve all people in need and

Since joining SMRS in 2014, Somer has helped strengthen and expand medication services throughout the agency. As SMRS’s first MAT Champion, she has supported staff, improved access to medication services, and helped reduce stigma surrounding medications used in mental health and addiction treatment.

Somer’s professional experience, lived experience, and heart for helping others continue to inspire the work she does every day.

Please join us in congratulating Justina Catania, RN, BSN, on her promotion to Senior Clinical Nurse Manager!

Justina joined SMRS in September 2023 as our first registered nurse. Since then, she has helped grow our nursing services, supported staff across our programs, and cared for the people we serve with patience, kindness, and understanding.

Justina believes everyone deserves to feel heard and respected, and she brings that belief to her work every day.

We are happy to celebrate this new chapter with her and look forward to seeing all she will accomplish in her new role.

On August 4, SMRS staff came together at Almansor Court for our quarterly All-Agency Meeting. It was a day filled with learning, laughter, connection, and appreciation for the people who make our work possible.

Reham Abdrabo, Director of Education and Training, led a fun and interactive presentation on “Boundaries in the Workspace.” We also celebrated employees reaching 5, 10, 15, and 35 years of service—including CEO Bruce Boardman, who was honored for 35 years with SMRS.

“The work that everyone does in this organization is what makes us strong,” Bruce shared.

Congratulations to Cecile Rodriguez, the 2026 recipient of the Inspiration of Uncompromising Service Award, and to all the employees who were nominated by their peers.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to bring heart and dedication to the work we do each day.

Jessica joined SMRS in 2022 as an MFT trainee and later became a Primary Counselor. Now, she is stepping into a leadership role where she will continue supporting participants and the PCADD team with kindness and compassion.
