The CapeCodCAN!

is a Cape–based project dedicated to providing inclusive arts, music and theater programs for teens and adults with and without developmental and intellectual disabilities on Cape Cod and Plymouth.

Contramestre (CM) Andre Lima is back with his wonderful Capoeira class. A 6 week series, Andre will introduce this Afro-Brazilian art form which combines graceful martial arts/dance movements, instruments and vocals. Andre leads with joy and all are welcome. Words matter — especially when it comes to how we shape our laws.

Today, MDDC Council members and staff joined Governor Maura Healey and disability advocates for the signing of the Archaic Language bill.

The new law updates outdated and offensive terminology throughout the Massachusetts General Laws with language that recognizes the dignity of people with disabilities.

MDDC was proud to advocate for this legislation. Gyasi Burks-Abbott, Chair of MDDC’s Public Policy Committee, testified on behalf of the Council on the impact of these important changes.

Thank you to Governor Healey and the legislators and advocates who helped move this legislation forward, including Jamie Eldridge, Representative Sean Garballey, and Representative Jay Livingstone

Our laws should reflect the dignity and respect that every person deserves.
