Copper River Watershed Project The Copper River Watershed Project works to foster the health of the Copper River watershed's salmon-based communities, economies and cultures.

What is the Copper River Watershed? Twenty three communities dot the 26,500 square miles of the Copper River watershed. Town populations range from 2,500 people in Cordova, located West of the Copper River delta, to 35 people in McCarthy, a village in the upper basin of the watershed. Several facts about the watershed:

* 26,500 square miles, with headwaters draining from Copper Glacier in the Wrangell Mountains
* Encompasses Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, the largest National Park and Preserve in the U.S.
* Includes the Copper, Gulkana, Klutina, Chitina, Tazlina, Gakona and Tonsina Rivers along with hundreds of tributaries, lakes and smaller rivers
* Diverse wildlife habitat for bears, caribou, moose, mountain goats, sheep, wolves, waterfowl and many other species
* One of the last intact watersheds in North America
* Critical spawning habitat for three species of wild salmon that are the foundation of our ecosystem, culture and economy.

🪏CORDOVA - Last week, Mt. Eccles Elementary School 5th & 6th grade Student Council and CRWP's Stewardship Outreach Specialist Jillian Gold, worked to sow native flower seeds and tuck the garden in for a restful winter. We'd like to send out a big THANK YOU to Skye Steritz and a wonderful Student Council group for all of their efforts towards our pollinator garden.

🌱 Wish the seeds luck when you walk by the garden in front of the school!

Last week Cordova students went outside and waded into the water for salmon egg-take day. They harvested eggs that they will be raising in their classroom tank this year.

It was a beautiful fall day out the road. The kids participated in a habitat sketch activity and learned about the purpose of a Redd. The goals of this activity are to introduce why gravel and bankside vegetation are important to healthy spawning grounds.

Big thanks to our partners Prince William Sound Science Center and Prince William Sound Aquaculture Corporation for making egg-take day possible, and to all of our partners and sponsors in Salmon in the Classroom for bringing this opportunity to Copper River youth: Ahtna Intertribal Resource Commission (AITRC), Alaska Department of Fish and Game - Official, Copper River School District, Cordova School District, Cordova Telecom Cooperative, Cordova Wireless, Native Village of Eyak, Valdez Fisheries Development Association (VFDA).

Happy Alaska Day!

Today and every day, we celebrate Alaska and the incredible Copper River Watershed we’re lucky to call home. This wild, abundant place is a rare treasure—and its future is in our hands. Through dedication, collaboration, and a shared commitment to stewardship, we can make sure the watershed remains healthy, wild, and thriving for generations to come. 💙

🥳 COPPER BASIN - We'd like to give a great big shout-out to all the volunteers who helped with the ROAR recycling site in Glennallen during the month of September!

♻️ Arlene Rosencrans, our very first volunteer of the month, got the ball rolling and a week or so later Kelsey Stanbro and her volleyball team knocked it out of the park, then CRWP Board Member Gloria Jones and her husband finished strong! All volunteers had the entire site cleaned up in no time!

💪🏽 THANK YOU so much to all of you for showing up, cleaning up, and caring about our community recycling depot. You all rock!
