This past week, the Community Organized Restoration and Learning (CORaL) Network hosted its annual meeting in Valdez, Alaska, which brought together members from six organizations, including the Alaska SeaLife Center, Alaska Sea Grant, Alutiiq Museum, Center for Alaskan Coastal Studies, Chugach Regional Resources Commission, and Prince William Sound Science Center.

đź—» Members from each organization gathered in Valdez to discuss Network pathways, identify areas where Network partners can support one another, and develop a plan for the next year of outreach and education. đź““

đź”— Meetings like these are important for in-person collaboration, relationship-building among partners, and supporting a community in our service area.

🌟 Looking ahead, we cannot wait to see what the CORaL Network does next!

Another Copper River Steward continuing their learning journey!
Micah was a steward this summer on the Copper River Stewardship Program. He connected with the glacier scientists he met along the way. For his final project he presented his own glacier research at a Tuesday Night Talk. To better understand glacial anatomy he designed a model and printed it on his 3D printer. Micah brought that model to Ocean Science Festival to teach his peers about glaciers and inspire them to apply for the program. Way to go Micah! Sea Squirts I October 26th, 10-11 am and 2-3pm
Explore the adaptations that make owls the unique bird that they are. We will dissect owl pellets, make owl viewers, and play in a kid-sized nest.
This month we are partnering with Cordova Imagination Library and pre-schoolers will go home with a free book (while supplies last).
Sea Squirts is a free monthly preschool program that will get your tot thinking like a scientist. The program is designed for kids ages 3 - 5. Each session starts with a story and then leads into discovery stations for you and your child to do together.

🌊 Let’s keep the conversation going, Cordova!

Join us for the Cordova Science Gathering Luncheon — a follow-up to the Cordova Science Gathering designed to keep connections growing and conversations going beyond the annual event!

This informal gathering brings together experts, including researchers, resource managers, traditional knowledge holders, and more, to share what they’re working on, what they’ve learned, and what they hope to explore next. From ongoing projects to past discoveries and future research ideas, it’s an opportunity to learn what’s happening across Cordova, Prince William Sound, and the surrounding region.

Whether you have a project to share, are looking for collaborators, or simply want to learn more about the research happening in our region, we’d love to have you join the conversation!

Save the date and stay tuned for details on the next luncheon, taking place on November 18th from 11 am to 1 pm at the Cordova Center.

It all starts with a seed! The 2nd graders familiarized themselves with seed structure and how seeds travel in preparation for their hydroponics farm. This winter the 2nd graders will be growing lettuce in the classroom from seed to harvest. It will be up to them to monitor the plants' needs and explore the ways that light and water impact plant growth. In December they will celebrate their harvest with a salad party!

Paying it back!
This summer Cordova High School student Lasyn (picture 3) participated in the Copper River Stewardship Program. After traversing on glaciers, meeting scientists, and exploring ways to share observations through art, she invested her knowledge in younger Cordovan students. She designed an activity book to teach 4th graders about glacier terminology and help inspire excitement for these rivers of ice. The 4th graders had their annual Sheridan Glacier field trip last week and loved using the activity books (picture 1) to identify the parts of the glacier that they could see from the trail.
