Yesterday, Corbin Kiwanis was honored to welcome Andrea McKeehan, Director of Development & Donor Relations for the Appalachian Children’s Home in Barbourville.

Andrea reminded us of a mission that aligns closely with what Kiwanis is all about: “Children are worth investing in.” She shared the heart behind her message with us: “The Lord has placed us with these children, and we will serve these children first.”

As Kiwanis members, we believe strongly in serving our community and investing in the next generation. We’re grateful for the opportunity to learn more about the work being done at the Appalachian Children’s Home, and the opportunity to serve with them as we move forward.

Children are worth investing in.

Growing membership from 6 to 60!

Friends, we set a big goal this year: grow the Corbin Kiwanis Club from 6 members in October of 2025 to 60 members by September 2026!

And guess what? We’re now just over the 50-member mark!

Kiwanis is about serving our community and investing in our kids. We support local schools, youth programs, community projects and organizations that help make Corbin a better place to live. Our members volunteer their time, share their talents and work together to make a difference.

There is a place for you in Kiwanis, whether you can volunteer regularly, help with a project, share your talents, or simply want to connect with others who care about our community.

Help us reach 60 members by September!

Yesterday’s Corbin Kiwanis meeting was a wonderful reminder of where we’ve been and where we’re headed!

Paul Matney reminded us of the importance of our past during the history minute and the lessons it holds, while Kyle Perkins encouraged us to look toward the future.

Our Kiwanians shared why they joined, what they hope to accomplish, and the positive impact they hope to make in our community. It was inspiring to hear so many thoughtful ideas and a shared commitment to serving others.

Our second set of speakers at today's Kiwanis Club meeting were Cassondra Minton and Jennifer Tye from Cumberland River Behavioral Health.

They shared information about their upcoming Overdose Response Event, the many services offered by Cumberland River Behavioral Health, and the important work of the Quick Response Team (QRT) in connecting individuals and families with treatment, recovery resources, and support following an overdose.

Cassondra and Jennifer also shared their personal recovery journeys and spoke about the role that their faith in God has played in their long-term sobriety. Their stories were a powerful reminder that recovery is possible and that hope, support, and community can make a lasting difference.

We were excited to welcome Kara Hawk, Walk Manager for the Alzheimer's Association's Southeast Region, as the first speaker at today's Kiwanis Club of Corbin meeting.

Kara shared the Alzheimer's Association's mission, the importance of the Walk to End Alzheimer's, and ways our community can help support families affected by Alzheimer's disease.

Thank you, Kara, for the meaningful work you do every day.

We are so excited to partner with Lynn Camp Schools as they launch a Key Club at the high school and a Kiwanis Builders Club at the middle school this fall. These programs will provide students with meaningful opportunities to develop leadership skills, serve their schools and communities, and grow into tomorrow's leaders.

A special thank you to Darya Logan for your dedication, vision, and hard work in bringing these clubs to life. Your commitment to our students and your passion for leadership and service have made this exciting opportunity possible. We are so grateful for you!🖤🧡💙

Here's to a successful school year and the beginning of something truly special!

I know we still have a few weeks of Summer Break, however I have been working to have everything ready for our students and Faculty.

I am excited to begin a new chapter with Student Leadership.

This Fall, we will establish a Key Club (High School) and implement Kiwanis Builder Club (Middle School).

For our Key Club, there will be an application for members. Contact me for questions and information.

We're so grateful to Whitaker Bank!

Whitaker Bank has donated $2,000 to the Corbin Kiwanis Club Scholarship Fund, reinforcing its longstanding commitment to education and community service!

The donation was presented during the July 22 Corbin Kiwanis Club meeting by Whitaker Bank representatives Ethan Lake, Noah, and Kim Lovegrove. Lake also served as the featured speaker for the meeting, sharing insights while highlighting Whitaker Bank's longstanding commitment to community service.

Whitaker Bank is a Corporate Sponsor of the Corbin Kiwanis Club and proudly sponsors Kiwanian Barbara Logan, who serves as the club's treasurer. Ethan’s presentation carried additional significance as Lake represents a family with deep roots in Whitaker Bank, continuing a legacy of community leadership established by previous generations, including his great-grandfather.
