Corbin Rotary Club

At today’s meeting we were very pleased to have Corbin Police Department Officers Coy Wilson and Robbie Hodge join us for a special presentation. The Corbin Rotary Club was proud to purchase four Automated External Defibrillator (AED) units for the Corbin Police Department. This will provide an AED unit for each patrol car on every shift. Rotary clubs across the state are participating in the Project Heart Restart program to supply local law enforcement with this lifesaving equipment. Officer Wilson gave us an update on the local police department. Our Club is proud to support the Corbin Police Department.

We also recognized more Paul Harris Fellows. Paul Harris was the founder of Rotary. Paul Harris Fellows are Rotarians or friends of Rotary who have made significant contributions to Rotary’s motto of “Service Above Self”. Multiple levels of PHF recognition are attainable. At our June 11th meeting we were pleased to have our own John Burkhart speak to us. John spoke about world hunger and how we as Rotarians can help to combat that problem.

The Corbin Rotary Club awarded 11 seniors $1,000 scholarships from Corbin High School and Lynn Camp High School during its May 30 meeting. Club members noted it was the largest turnout in memory for the annual event.

A full agenda at today’s meeting. We were honored to have Ronnie Bowling, Commonwealth Attorney for Whitley and McCreary Counties as guest speaker. He spoke about how his office works and the initiatives he has pursued concerning crimes against children and violent crime.

At today’s meeting we were exceptionally proud to have our 2026 Scholarship Award winners and their families join us in acknowledgment of their achievement. The club members in attendance agreed this was the largest turnout in memory for this annual event.

All of the awardees from Corbin High School were present. Our two Lynn Camp High School awardees, Lauren Partin and Katie Ann Mills, were attending a Jobs For America’s Graduates National Conference. Each of the students introduced their family members present and told us about their college plans.

Congratulations and best wishes to this excellent group of graduates and their families! Special thanks to Rotarian Mallory Davis for serving as Chair of the Scholarship Committee and organizing today’s celebration.

At today’s meeting we were very pleased to welcome incoming Rotary District 6740 Governor Terry Pugh as guest speaker. Terry noted that his Rotary journey began in 2001 as a member of the Corbin Rotary Club. He spoke about ongoing initiatives of the District and the importance of the Rotary Foundation.

University of the Cumberlands President Dr. Quentin Young spoke to the Corbin Rotary Club on May 7 about the university’s growth, mission and continued focus on serving students in the region.
