At today's meeting we were very pleased to have Noah Jones as guest speaker. Noah is an RN at Baptist Health who specializes in ER and trauma care. He discussed the dangers associated with falls and shared information on fall prevention.

At today’s meeting we were pleased to have Jared Martin as guest speaker. Jared is tge new Athletic Director at Corbin High School. He spoke about the various sports program opportunities for students at CHS and the various responsibilities that come with being a high school AD.

EMPTY STOCKING FUND SIGNUP INFORMATION!

The Southeast Kentucky Empty Stocking Fund will be taking applications on Friday, November 13th and Tuesday, November 24th for this year's gift giveaway.

LOCATION: Old Corbin City Hall (District Courtroom) next to Corbin Fire Department, 805 S. Main Street, Corbin.

TIME: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm each day

ELIGIBILITY: This program is open to families in Knox, Laurel and Whitley counties. Parents will need to bring their proper ID's, proof of income and other assistance including their food stamp award letter and the children's Social Security cards.

The 38th annual Empty Stocking Fund party will be held Saturday December 19th at Immanuel Baptist Church. If you have questions call (606) 524-6475.

At today’s meeting we were pleased to have Kristen Walker Collins as guest speaker. She is CEO of the Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky. She described the background and the mission of that non-profit organization, which started in Perry County and now assists local governments and provides other support (humanitarian efforts, economic development, etc) all over Eastern Kentucky.

At our September 17th meeting we were pleased to have Chastity Kessler with Stepworks Recovery as guest speaker. We also honored Brandon Pratt of Pratt’s Landscaping as an honorary club member in recognition of his assistance to the Empty Stocking Fund for many years.

At our September 10th meeting Kathryn Hardman, a Past District Governor from the London Rotary Club presented Benjamin Wilson with a Paul Harris Society pin to commemorate his attaining that level of Rotary support.

At today’s meeting we were very pleased to welcome Dr. Joshua Ball as guest speaker. He is Chief Operating Officer for Shaping Our Appalachian Region (SOAR). He spoke about the upcoming SOAR Summit at the Corbin Arena October 7-9. He also spoke about another SOAR initiative, the Eastern Kentucky Talent Network. They are working with Westinghouse on an in-person and on-line hiring project called WECTEC to fill manufacturing, industrial and skilled trade positions. Information on both the SOAR Summit and WECTEC are shown below.

At today’s meeting we were very pleased to have Tom Ashford as guest speaker. Tom is a Past Rotary District Governor and continues to be involved in Rotary leadership and service projects. Jim presented a slide show as he updated us on a project to bring clean water to Myanmar (fka Burma). This project took several years, involved many Rotary partners (including our club) and ultimately improved the quality of life for many people, especially children.

At today’s meeting we were very pleased to have Jeanne Clark as guest speaker. Jeanne is a longtime Rotarian and Past District Governor. She spoke about an Empowering Girls project started by the Lexington After Hours Rotary Club and what they do to help elementary school girls.

We were also honored to have Jenny Osborne and Elaine Harris with the Corbin Walmart present a $4,000.00 grant check from Walmart, Inc to the Southeastern Kentucky Empty Stocking Fund. Our local Walmart has been a big part of the Empty Stocking Fund Christmas gift project for many years.

At today’s meeting we were pleased to have Ashley Wilson as guest speaker. Ashley and her husband Thomas own Unique & Rustique Boutique Furniture store in Corbin. Ashley spoke about the background of their business and how they have tried to give back to the community.
