The Berry Center and Berry family are heartbroken to announce the death of Wendell Erdman Berry, writer and farmer of Port Royal, Henry County, Kentucky. He passed suddenly and peacefully at home yesterday afternoon, August 31st. His work continues, here and in every place where people aim to live according to nature’s measure, on and with and of their beloved home place.

We shared our horses with the public again tonight. They did well as usual. Thanks to all that helped make this possible. Moving dead weight from a standstill is a true measure of horsepower.

Kevin Vering of Columbus, NE, talks about the informal group of men and women he and his wife Deb have enjoyed being a part of for the past couple of decades: people ostensibly gathering to use their draft animals together but really using the horses as a reason to maintain friendships. He talks about the health issues he's faced over the past several years and how Deb has kept him going and the support they've gotten from their draft horse friends.

Well, this is the latest version of our banner for the background shot of the photo spot at the annual gathering. Y'all come see the horses in the flesh, touch them, talk to their owners and keepers. This breed has earned human support, come join us in this truly sustainable culture. Hope to see you there in early October.
