A strong cold front will bring a heavy rain and isolated flash flood risk to parts of western North Texas this afternoon and evening. Localized rainfall totals up to 4" may lead to isolated flash flooding along and west of Hwy 281. Turn Around, Don't Drown!

Gusty northerly winds behind the cold front will make for a chilly morning tomorrow with lows in the 50s and wind chills in the 40s along the Red River.

"Severe storms may impact areas mainly west of a Throckmorton to Abilene to Ozona line this afternoon and tonight. The main concerns will be damaging wind gusts, large hail, and isolated tornadoes. Dangerous cloud to ground lightning will also accompany any storms that develop.""

Gustine VFD was toned out for a wildland fire on Oct 11, 2026 at an address on State Hwy 36 a few miles from Gustine. Proctor VFD, Energy VFD, and Comanche VFD were also page for mutual aid.

The fire was quickly contained.

At 10:28 AM, Oct 9, 2026, Comanche VFD was paged to respond to a wildland fire just off of Fm 573. Energy VFD and Gustine VFD were paged as well for mutual aid (standing policy to page additional departments during a burn ban). As the reported fire was near Mills County, Mullin VFD and Priddy VFD were also requested for mutual aid.

The fire occurred in 2-3 foot tall native grass with scattered bunches of prickly pear, mesquite trees, and cedar trees. Recent rain (almost a week ago) aided in a decrease in fire condition severity; however, the taller grasses were in decline from the extreme heat and drought conditions from a few weeks ago.

The fire was reported to have been started by an individual running a shredder through the pasture to create a lane.

The fire was contained to approximately 10 acres.

Thank you to Comanche County Emergency Management for also being on scene.

Comanche VFD responded to a reported structure fire after the caller advised that a kitchen appliance was on fire. Upon arrival, firefighters found that the fire had already been extinguished by the homeowner using “all-purpose” flour. Crews checked the appliance and surrounding area for any remaining fire or heat and confirmed that there was no further extension.

On Oct 4, 2026, Comanche VFD was paged to respond to a vehicle collision with airbag deployment on W Oak St behind Brookshire’s Grocery Store, near Comanche Post Office in Comanche. A firefighter responded in their personal vehicle and determined that the fire department was not needed.

However, public works would have to be notified. Apparently, a fire hydrant was struck, and removed from its base.

Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible.

⚠️WHERE...
Portions of North and Central Texas, including Comanche County.

⚠️WHEN...
From 4 PM CDT this afternoon through Friday morning.

⚠️IMPACTS...
Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Low-water crossings may be flooded.

⚠️ADDITIONAL DETAILS

- Slow moving showers and storms will likely bring widespread 2 to 4 inches of rain across the watch area. Localized areas of 5 to 7
inches will be possible.

-You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding.

-Please be aware of your surroundings. In the event of flooding TURN AROUND…DON’T DROWN.
