Cause for Canines We are a 501c3, 100% volunteer-run animal rescue based in central Ohio dedicated to help canines.

Cause for Canines is a volunteer based all-breed dog rescue founded in Columbus, Ohio. We are committed to the rescue of homeless dogs, dogs given up by their owners due to difficult circumstances or those in danger of abuse or neglect, and dogs in shelters that are at risk of euthanasia. Our mission is to find safe, loving, committed and permanent homes for the dogs we take into rescue. All of ou

r dogs are placed in foster care and receive any necessary medical care and treatments and are spayed/neutered and microchipped, while waiting for their forever homes. Applicants are put through an extensive adoption process to ensure our dogs are placed in the best homes possible. We also provide education to prospective adopters to ensure they have the tools necessary to provide appropriate pet care for their new forever friend.

Hi, I’m Vicky, and I’m a friendly, playful, easygoing girl who’s ready to bring lots of fun and love to my forever home. I have a happy personality and an adaptable nature, which makes me an easy dog to love. I’m great with other dogs and cats as I was raised around both dogs and cats, so I’m very comfortable having animal friends around. I adjusted quickly in my foster home and have shown everyone what a go-with-the-flow kind of girl I am. I’d love a playful dog buddy or an active family who will enjoy spending time with me. I’m house trained, crate trained, and I walk well on a leash, so I already have a lot of the basics down. I also know sit, no, crate, and off, and I’m working on learning even more. I’m a smart girl who enjoys praise, attention, and being included in whatever my people are doing. I love meat-flavored treats, bones, snack-filled Kongs, and balls, and I’m always up for some playtime. I also enjoy exploring the yard, going for walks, playing with other dogs, and getting lots of pets from my people. After I’ve had some fun, I’m more than happy to settle in for some cuddles too. I’m the kind of dog who can fit into a lot of different homes because I’m social, affectionate, and easygoing. Hi, I’m Miss Scarlett! I’m a loving, happy, high-energy girl with a big heart and an even bigger love for my people. I’m always ready for fun, whether that means playing outside with balls and frisbees, going for walks, chewing on bones, cuddling with stuffed animals, or soaking up all the attention I can get. I’m house trained, crate trained, and walk well on a leash. I’m also great with kids and enjoy being part of the family. I do get along with some dogs, (better with female dogs), but I would be happiest as the only dog in the home so I can enjoy all the love and attention from my people. Cats are not for me. I’m looking for an active family who can keep up with my playful side and give me plenty of exercise, walks, and time outside. Hi, I’m Pretty Penny — a sweet, shy, and gentle girl who’s still learning the world is safe. I may take a little time to warm up, but I’m getting braver every day. Once I trust you, I’ll quietly follow you around and settle into cozy spots where I feel secure. I’ve met multiple dogs and done well with them, though I prefer polite dog friends who respect my space. I haven’t met children or cats yet. I’m crate trained, sleep through the night, and often choose my crate as my safe place. I do need to be crated when left alone, but I’m low-energy and do well with a steady routine. I’m improving on leash and enjoy short walks, backyard sniffing time, and relaxing at home. I’m a quiet beagle, a gentle lounge pup with big adorable ears and a soft heart. I love Milk Bones, chicken chews, and crinkly stuffies. I do have Lyme disease, but it doesn’t seem to bother me, and my rescue is monitoring and treating it as advised. My ideal home is patient, loving, and kind — one that gives me safety, routine, and gentle encouragement as I continue to blossom. Hi! I’m Norbert. I am a loving, friendly and happy guy who gets along with other dogs, but not so much cats as I like to chase them. Children have been a stressor for me in the past, so a home without children would be best for me. I am house trained and crate trained too. My favorite treats are freeze dried tripe from that Hollywood Feed Store and I have a Moose stuffed toy I enjoy. In my daily life, I like to lounge on the couch, explore the yard and take walks. I can be an escape artist, so supervised playtime in the yard is a good idea. My foster mom says I am pretty quiet for a beagle. I am gentle and polite with all my doggy friends and I really love to cuddle with my humans. I cannot wait to find a family all my own who will provide me all the love and attention I deserve! Hey, I’m Hero — also known as Sweet Boy, Short King, Hot Dog, and Piggie (I answer to them all). I’m about three years old and finally learning how to just be a dog. I’m fully house trained and crate trained, walk nicely on leash, and I’m honestly a pretty chill guy who loves routine and being close to my people. I know my commands — sit, come, down, leave it, let’s go, place, and shake — and I thrive with positive reinforcement, structure, and clear boundaries. Walks, training, puzzles, and fenced-in yard time keep my smart brain happy. I’m deeply loyal and affectionate once I trust you.To be successful, I need to be the only animal in the home. I’ve shown resource guarding and reactivity with other pets, so a calm, predictable environment without other animals is best. I’m also not a fit for homes with children under 15.
I’m not a “take me everywhere” dog — I’m a ride-or-die companion for the right, experienced and patient adopter who will respect my boundaries. In return, I’ll give you unwavering loyalty and love. Hi! I’m Clovey. I am a cuddly and active girl who gets along with other dogs as long as we are able to meet with a slow introduction. I have not been around cats or kids to know how I would do around them yet. When I am out of my crate I will go to the door and let you know I need to go out. I am still working on my crate training as I don’t like to be separated from my humans. My favorite snacks are hot dogs! I love those things. I also know the command “sit” and will come to you when you call for me. I enjoy the Bark Box fuzzy toys. I like to run in the backyard and play with my fur sibling and oh boy do I love to cuddle. I really love being around my humans and am a very loving dog when I am the one getting all of the attention. I cannot wait to find my very own active family who will give me all the love and attention I deserve and who will be patient with me as I continue to learn.
