Cause for Canines

We are a 501c3, 100% volunteer-run animal rescue based in central Ohio dedicated to help canines.

Cause for Canines is a volunteer based all-breed dog rescue founded in Columbus, Ohio. We are committed to the rescue of homeless dogs, dogs given up by their owners due to difficult circumstances or those in danger of abuse or neglect, and dogs in shelters that are at risk of euthanasia. Our mission is to find safe, loving, committed and permanent homes for the dogs we take into rescue. All of ou

r dogs are placed in foster care and receive any necessary medical care and treatments and are spayed/neutered and microchipped, while waiting for their forever homes. Applicants are put through an extensive adoption process to ensure our dogs are placed in the best homes possible. We also provide education to prospective adopters to ensure they have the tools necessary to provide appropriate pet care for their new forever friend.

Hi, I’m Liberty Belle, but my friends call me Belle! I’m an athletic, enthusiastic, and curious puppy who loves watching, learning, exploring, and being part of the action. I’m good with dogs, cats, and kids. I currently live with other dogs of different sizes and two cats, and I do well with everyone. Since I’m still young, I’m working on house training and leash walking, and I do need to be crated when left alone for short periods of time. I’m also learning that when the bells on the door ring, it’s time to go outside. I love toys — especially anything that squeaks! In the morning, I like to pull squeaky toys from the toy bin and carry them to my favorite spot on the couch. I also love playing in the kiddy pool, splashing my paws, fishing toys out of the water, and carrying them around the yard. When I get excited, I love to zoom around in big, fast circles. I’m a strong, muscular little girl with impressive jumping skills, and I’ve even tried to parkour my way through flower pots and across the garden. I’m playful and busy, so while I don’t mind being held or carried, I usually have places to go, toys to play with, and adventures to start. I’m affectionate too! I love couch cuddles and especially like to be the big spoon, nosing my way between my person and the back of the couch so I can snuggle in close. I’m also attentive and take cues from my people. If another dog barks at something outside, I look to my foster dad first to see how he reacts. I like to taste-test treats before fully committing, but cream cheese was a big hit when it came time to take my monthly flea, tick, and heartworm pill. If you’re looking for a fun, smart, active puppy who loves toys, cuddles, zoomies, and exploring the world, I might just be your Girl.

Rules:
-There are 100 squares per board. The board will pay out $125/quarter in prize money. The remainder will be donated to Cause for Canines.
-Your square will be randomly assigned before kickoff. The numbers (0-9) will be placed randomly across (Ohio State) and down (Texas).
-Your numbers represent the last digit of Ohio State (across) and Texas(down) team’s score for each game. For example, if Ohio State is ahead 14 - 7 at the end of the quarter, that would mean that the square with 4 across and 7 down would win that quarter.
-Each square can win more than once. Quarters 1-3 and final score will each have a winner! If the square is empty, those proceeds will be donated to the rescue.
-Confused? No worries. We will let you know if you win! Winners will be contacted after the game.

Hi, I’m Independence, but my friends call me Penny! I’m a cuddly, playful, opinionated puppy with a big personality and a whole lot of love to give. Since I’m still young, I’m working on potty training and learning my routine. I know that when the bells on the door ring, it’s time to go outside, but I’m still figuring it all out. I do need to be crated when left alone. I get along well with other dogs and cats and kids. I love playing with the dogs in my foster home and will use my little voice to invite them to play or let them know when they’re being too rough. I also live with two cats and have learned to be calm around them so they’ll want to stay close. My favorite toys are soft rubber toys for my teething gums, soft toys, and sticks — especially if they’re bigger than I am! I also love belly rubs and often sleep upside down on the couch like I’m waiting for one. Most of all, I love being close to my people. I love to be held, snuggled, petted, and carried around. I’ll nap next to you on the couch, lay by your feet while you do dishes or make dinner, and come running when you call “Penny” in an excited voice. I can be a little shy with new people until I know they’re safe, but the way to my heart is being held and cuddled. If you’re looking for a sweet, snuggly, playful puppy with lots of love — and a few opinions — I might just be your Penny.

Hey, I’m Hero — also known as Sweet Boy, Short King, Hot Dog, and Piggie (I answer to them all). I’m about three years old and finally learning how to just be a dog. I’m fully house trained and crate trained, walk nicely on leash, and I’m honestly a pretty chill guy who loves routine and being close to my people. I know my commands — sit, come, down, leave it, let’s go, place, and shake — and I thrive with positive reinforcement, structure, and clear boundaries. Walks, training, puzzles, and fenced-in yard time keep my smart brain happy. I’m deeply loyal and affectionate once I trust you to be successful, I need to be the only animal in the home. I’ve shown resource guarding and reactivity with other pets, so a calm, predictable environment without other animals is best. I’m also not a fit for homes with children under 15.
I’m not a “take me everywhere” dog — I’m a ride-or-die companion for the right, experienced and patient adopter who will respect my boundaries. In return, I’ll give you unwavering loyalty and love. Hi! I’m Clovey. I am a cuddly and active girl who gets along with other dogs as long as we are able to meet with a slow introduction. I have not been around cats or kids to know how I would do around them yet. When I am out of my crate I will go to the door and let you know I need to go out. I am still working on my crate training as I don’t like to be separated from my humans. My favorite snacks are hot dogs! I love those things. I also know the command “sit” and will come to you when you call for me. I enjoy the Bark Box fuzzy toys. I like to run in the backyard and play with my fur sibling and oh boy do I love to cuddle. I really love being around my humans and am a very loving dog when I am the one getting all of the attention. Hi, I’m Cashew! I’m a sweet, loyal, and obedient boy with a gentle heart and a whole lot of love to give. Once I trust you, I’m all in — especially if cuddling is involved. I absolutely love to cuddle and be close to my people. I’m house trained, walk well on a leash, and I am crate trained, although I haven’t needed to be crated in about nine months. I’m a smart boy and know lots of commands, including place, wait, sit, lay down, upstairs, downstairs, and my personal favorite: “drop it like it’s hot.” Yes, you have to say the whole thing! I’m a nervous guy at first, so I need a calm, steady environment where I can feel safe and secure. A busy, fast-paced home would not be the best fit for me. I do best with structure, consistency, patience, and someone who understands that I may need time to adjust to new people, places, and experiences. I’m good with other dogs, but I need slow, thoughtful introductions because new dog friends and new situations can make me anxious or scared at first. With patience and proper guidance, I do much better. Because I am a strong, insecure large-breed dog with a few quirks, I need someone with large-breed experience who can confidently manage me and maintain my training in a kind, consistent way. Because of my age, size, and energy level, I’d do best in a home with older children who can understand my need for space, calm energy, and slow introductions. Some of my favorite things are beef liver, squeaky toys, chew toys, walks, leisurely hikes, naps, and, of course, cuddle time. I’m a wonderful mix of loyal companion, adventure buddy, and professional nap partner. If you’re looking for a sweet, smart, devoted boy and you have the calm home, patience, and experience to help me feel secure, I might just be your guy.

I’m Pretty Penny! I really am as cute as my name sounds. I’m a sweet, curious girl who is getting braver by the day. I can be a little cautious with new people while I decide whether you’re trustworthy, but once you’re in my circle, my silly side comes out! I love having my big velvety ears rubbed, curling up right beside my person for a nap, and being wherever my favorite humans are. One of my absolute favorite things? Other dogs! I love having canine friends and would do incredibly well with another dog who can help me continue building confidence. Rowdy dogs don’t bother me much either — I’m usually just happy to be included in the fun. I’m crate trained, so very close to being potty trained, and an excellent car rider. I’m also pretty easygoing when it comes to exercise. Give me a few morning zoomies to let my beagle nose investigate ALL the smells and I’ll be more than ready for a nap. Speaking of that nose… I’m an enthusiastic explorer! Open trash cans may occasionally contain treasures I simply cannot resist investigating. I’m not much of a barker unless something startles me, and I’m currently working with a trainer to continue building my confidence around unfamiliar people. I’m doing really well. I haven’t lived with cats or children yet because sudden movements and loud noises startle me, I’d be happiest in a home without young children. Cats are unknown. I did test positive for Lyme disease, but I’m currently healthy, have shown no symptoms, and my recent kidney testing was normal. My rescue will be happy to discuss my medical history with my adopter. My perfect family will be patient, loving, and willing to let me build trust at my own pace. In return, you’ll get a sweet little shadow, a champion napper, an adventurous nose, some spectacular ears, and one seriously lovable girl. I’ve already come so far — I just need my forever family so I can keep discovering how wonderful life can be.

Hi, I’m Wooffles! I’m a silly, loving guy looking for my best friend. I have the handsome face of a German Shepherd, the goofiness of a Husky, and I’m a world-class cuddler. I’m great with dogs and cats and love playing with both. I haven’t been around a lot of kids, but I’ve loved the attention from the ones I’ve met. I can be a little shy with new people at first, but I warm up quickly and absolutely LOVE attention. I’m house trained and crate trained and should be crated when left alone. I love treats, squeaky toys, car rides, and especially snuggling up with my human at the end of the day. Right now, I’m finishing treatment for heartworms and I’ll need to stay on activity restriction until about mid-September while I recover. Because I’ve had to take it easy, I haven’t had much practice with walks yet, so I may need a little leash training and socialization once I’m cleared. I’m a smart boy, though, and I think I’ll catch on quickly. Once I get the all-clear, I’ll be SO excited to play with other pups, go for walks, run around, and become someone’s adventure buddy. I could easily see myself becoming the perfect patio pup for those beautiful autumn days. Until then, I’m perfectly happy taking car rides with my ears flopping in the wind, having silly moments with my foster siblings, and cuddling with my people. Could I be your new best friend?

Hi! I’m Norbert. I am a loving, friendly and happy guy who gets along with other dogs, but not so much cats as I like to chase them. Children have been a stressor for me in the past, so a home without children would be best for me. I am house trained and crate trained too. My favorite treats are freeze dried tripe from that Hollywood Feed Store and I have a Moose stuffed toy I enjoy. In my daily life, I like to lounge on the couch, explore the yard and take walks. I can be an escape artist, so supervised playtime in the yard is a good idea. My foster mom says I am pretty quiet for a beagle. I am gentle and polite with all my doggy friends and I really love to cuddle with my humans. I cannot wait to find a family all my own who will provide me all the love and attention I deserve! I’m house trained, crate trained, and walk well on a leash. I’m also great with kids and enjoy being part of the family. I do get along with some dogs, (better with male dogs), but I would be happiest as the only dog in the home so I can enjoy all the love and attention from my people. Cats are not for me. I’m looking for an active family who can keep up with my playful side and give me plenty of exercise, walks, and time outside. After I’ve had my fun, I’m more than happy to turn into a total cuddle baby. I love treats of all kinds, toys, balls, frisbees, stuffed animals, bones, walks, playtime, and snuggles.
