We are a 501c3, 100% volunteer-run animal rescue based in central Ohio dedicated to help canines.

Cause for Canines is a volunteer based all-breed dog rescue founded in Columbus, Ohio. We are committed to the rescue of homeless dogs, dogs given up by their owners due to difficult circumstances or those in danger of abuse or neglect, and dogs in shelters that are at risk of euthanasia. Our mission is to find safe, loving, committed and permanent homes for the dogs we take into rescue. All of our dogs are placed in foster care and receive any necessary medical care and treatments and are spayed/neutered and microchipped, while waiting for their forever homes. Applicants are put through an extensive adoption process to ensure our dogs are placed in the best homes possible. We also provide education to prospective adopters to ensure they have the tools necessary to provide appropriate pet care for their new forever friend.

Hi! I’m Clovey. I am a cuddly and active girl who gets along with other dogs as long as we are able to meet with a slow introduction. I have not been around cats or kids to know how I would do around them yet. When I am out of my crate I will go to the door and let you know I need to go out. I am still working on my crate training as I don’t like to be separated from my humans. My favorite snacks are hot dogs! I love those things. I also know the command “sit” and will come to you when you call for me. I enjoy the Bark Box fuzzy toys. I like to run in the backyard and play with my fur sibling and oh boy do I love to cuddle. I really love being around my humans and am a very loving dog when I am the one getting all of the attention. I cannot wait to find my very own active family who will give me all the love and attention I deserve and who will be patient with me as I continue to learn. Hi, I’m Cashew! I’m a sweet, loyal, and obedient boy with a gentle heart and a whole lot of love to give. Once I trust you, I’m all in — especially if cuddling is involved. I absolutely love to cuddle and be close to my people. I’m house trained, walk well on a leash, and I am crate trained, although I haven’t needed to be crated in about nine months. I’m a smart boy and know lots of commands, including place, wait, sit, lay down, upstairs, downstairs, and my personal favorite: “drop it like it’s hot.” Yes, you have to say the whole thing! I’m a nervous guy at first, so I need a calm, steady environment where I can feel safe and secure. A busy, fast-paced home would not be the best fit for me. I do best with structure, consistency, patience, and someone who understands that I may need time to adjust to new people, places, and experiences. I’m good with other dogs, but I need slow, thoughtful introductions because new dog friends and new situations can make me anxious or scared at first. With patience and proper guidance, I do much better. Because I am a strong, insecure large-breed dog with a few quirks, I need someone with large-breed experience who can confidently manage me and maintain my training in a kind, consistent way. Because of my age, size, and energy level, I’d do best in a home with older children who can understand my need for space, calm energy, and slow introductions. Some of my favorite things are beef liver, squeaky toys, chew toys, walks, leisurely hikes, naps, and, of course, cuddle time. I’m a wonderful mix of loyal companion, adventure buddy, and professional nap partner. Hi, I’m Pretty Penny! I really am as cute as my name sounds. I’m a sweet, curious girl who is getting braver by the day. I can be a little cautious with new people, but once you’re in my circle, my silly side comes out! I love having my velvety ears rubbed, curling up right beside my person for a nap, and being wherever my humans are. One of my absolute favorite things? Other dogs! I love having canine friends and would do well with another dog who can help me continue to build confidence. Rowdy dogs don’t bother me much either, I’m usually just happy to be included in the fun. I’m crate trained, close to being potty trained, and an excellent car rider. I’m pretty easygoing when it comes to exercise. Give me a few morning zoomies to let my beagle nose investigate ALL the smells and I’ll be more than ready for a nap. Speaking of that nose, I’m an enthusiastic explorer! Open trash cans may occasionally contain treasures I simply cannot resist. I’m not much of a barker unless something startles me, and I’m currently working with a trainer to continue building my confidence around unfamiliar people. I’m doing really well and everyone is so proud of how far I’ve come. I haven’t lived with cats or children yet. Because sudden movements and loud noises can still startle me, I’d be happiest in a home without young children. Cats are unknown. I did test positive for Lyme disease, but I’m currently healthy, have shown no symptoms, and my recent kidney testing was normal. My rescue will be happy to discuss my medical history with my adopter. My perfect family will be patient, loving, and willing to let me build trust at my own pace. In return, you’ll get a sweet little shadow, a champion napper, an adventurous nose, some spectacular ears, and one seriously lovable girl. I’ve already come so far — I just need my forever family so I can keep discovering how wonderful life can be. I really am a heartbreaker.

Hi! I’m Norbert. I am a loving, friendly and happy guy who gets along with other dogs, but not so much cats as I like to chase them. Children have been a stressor for me in the past, so a home without children would be best for me. I am house trained and crate trained too. My favorite treats are freeze dried tripe from that Hollywood Feed Store and I have a Moose stuffed toy I enjoy. In my daily life, I like to lounge on the couch, explore the yard and take walks. I can be an escape artist, so supervised playtime in the yard is a good idea. My foster mom says I am pretty quiet for a beagle. I am gentle and polite with all my doggy friends and I really love to cuddle with my humans. I cannot wait to find a family all my own who will provide me all the love and attention I deserve! Hi, I’m Miss Scarlett! I’m a loving, happy, high-energy girl with a big heart and an even bigger love for my people. I’m always ready for fun, whether that means playing outside with balls and frisbees, going for walks, chewing on bones, cuddling with stuffed animals, or soaking up all the attention I can get. I’m house trained, crate trained, and walk well on a leash. I’m also great with kids and enjoy being part of the family. I do get along with some dogs, (better with male dogs), but I would be happiest as the only dog in the home so I can enjoy all the love and attention from my people. Cats are not for me. I’m looking for an active family who can keep up with my playful side and give me plenty of exercise, walks, and time outside. Hi, I’m Maisie! I’m a sweet, affectionate, and silly girl who is still learning that the world is a safe place. I can be shy and nervous around new people, animals, and noises, so I’m looking for a patient, loving home that will continue helping me build confidence. Once I feel safe, my gentle personality really comes out. I enjoy affection, especially little rubs against my people, and I do best with calm, reassuring humans who understand that trust takes time. I’d be happiest in a quiet, stand-alone home with a secure yard, since apartments or condos may feel too overwhelming for me. I’m still getting comfortable outside, but I’ve made a lot of progress, especially since starting anxiety medication, and I get braver every week. I’m working hard on my house training and doing much better. Walks are still short, and I may pull toward home if something scares me, so I’ll need someone willing to keep working with me at my pace. I should be crated when left alone and would do best in a home without other dogs or cats. I’m also still figuring out kids — right now, the child I’m most comfortable with is a 10-year-old in my foster home. I may need a little extra patience, but with love, consistency, and a gentle home, I’ll keep showing you more and more of the sweet girl I’m becoming.

Hi, I’m Liberty Belle, orBelle! I’m an enthusiastic, athletic, and curious puppy who loves learning, exploring, and being part of the action. I’m good with dogs, cats, and kids. I currently live with other dogs of different sizes and two cats. I also LOVE meeting new people. I’m making great progress with my puppy manners! I ring the bells on the door when I need to go outside to potty, keep my crate clean overnight, and sit nicely when I’m asking for treats. I’m eager to please my humans which makes learning new things pretty exciting for me. I love going for leash walks and am always ready for an adventure. I’m still figuring out how to keep my long legs from getting tangled in my car seatbelt, but I’m working on it! Toys are one of my favorite things — especially anything that squeaks. I also love playing in the kiddy pool, splashing my paws, fishing toys out of the water, and carrying them around the yard. When I get excited, I love to zoom around in big, fast circles. I’m a strong, muscular girl with some seriously impressive jumping skills, and I still enjoy a little backyard parkour — bouncing around the yard, jumping on things, and finding creative ways to turn everyday objects into an obstacle course. After all that activity, I’m happy to settle in too. I love lounging in circle-shaped dog beds and relaxing near my people, especially stretched out by their feet on the couch. I’m also very attentive and take cues from my humans. If another dog barks at something outside, I often look to my foster dad first to see how he reacts. I like to taste-test treats before fully committing, but cream cheese was a definite winner when it came time to take my monthly flea, tick, and heartworm pill. Hi! I’m Penne! I’m a silly, smart, sweet little girl who is still learning that the world isn’t such a scary place. I can be pretty timid and shy when I first meet new people or animals, and new sounds sometimes make me nervous too. Once I start feeling comfortable, though, my personality really begins to come out. I love cuddling and treats of ALL kinds. I’m a very smart girl and a fast learner, especially when treats are involved! I’m already doing great with crate training. I go into my crate easily with a treat and should be crated when I’m home alone. Because I’m still young and have only been with the rescue for a short time, I’m still working on potty training and leash walking. I’m doing really well with potty training, especially when I’m rewarded for doing the right thing, so my foster family thinks I’ll have it figured out in no time. Leash walking is a little harder for me right now because I’m still building my confidence. I’m okay with cats, although I am still a puppy, so naturally I think they look like excellent potential playmates and may want to chase or play with them. I haven’t spent enough time around kids yet to know exactly how I’ll do, but my foster family thinks I’ll likely be just fine with proper introductions. What I really need is someone patient who will continue helping me build confidence, socialize, and experience new things at my own pace. Give me a little time, some encouragement, and plenty of treats, and I have no doubt I’ll blossom into an amazing companion — and maybe even your favorite adventure buddy. I really am a very sweet pup. I just need someone to show me that the world isn’t nearly as scary as I think it is. Hey, I’m Hero — also known as Sweet Boy, Short King, Hot Dog, and Piggie (I answer to them all). I’m about three years old and finally learning how to just be a dog. I’m fully house trained and crate trained, walk nicely on leash, and I’m honestly a pretty chill guy who loves routine and being close to my people. I know my commands — sit, come, down, leave it, let’s go, place, and shake — and I thrive with positive reinforcement, structure, and clear boundaries. Walks, training, puzzles, and fenced-in yard time keep my smart brain happy. I’m deeply loyal and affectionate once I trust you.To be successful, I need to be the only animal in the home. I’ve shown resource guarding and reactivity with other pets, so a calm, predictable environment without other animals is best. I’m also not a fit for homes with children under 15.

Hi, I’m Finlay! I’m a sweet, playful girl with a big personality, an even bigger love for toys, and a serious talent for cuddling. I’m great with other dogs, cats, and kids, and I absolutely LOVE having furry friends around. Wrestling with the other foster dogs is one of my favorite things to do, and when we’re all worn out, I’m just as happy curling up next to them for a nap. Now, let’s talk about toys. I LOVE them. Big toys, little toys, chew toys, stuffed toys — if I find one, I carry it around like I’ve discovered a pot of gold. If it moves, I’m interested. I also like helping in the garden. When I’m not playing, I’m a total cuddle bug. I love nestling in next to my foster parent on the couch with a toy or chew stick and settling in for some serious snuggle time .I’m already learning lots of good manners. I know to sit for treats, and I’ve learned that when the bells on the door ring, it’s time to go outside. I generally keep my crate clean at night, and because I’m still young and learning, I do need to be crated when I’m left alone. I’m learning how to play it cool with the cats! If I stay calm, they’ll come close — and once they pass, I usually celebrate with some very excited zoomies. I’m playful, affectionate, curious, and full of joy. If you’re looking for a sweet little sidekick who will follow you around, make you laugh, carry toys everywhere, cuddle on the couch, and bring a whole lot of love into your home, I might be your girl.
