Reaching For The Shining Starz

Since 2014, we’ve been meeting women on their terms through street outreach.

Through weekly street outreach, we distribute hygiene bags, food, and clothing to women by meeting them where they are in a nurturing and non-judgmental manner. Reaching for the Shining Starz is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization devoted to providing immediate relief to women in the city of Columbus caught in the vicious cycle of human trafficking, addiction, and homelessness.

Every Sunday from 5:00–7:00 PM, our outreach team hits the streets to connect with and serve the women in our community.

What may seem like a simple bag of supplies can make a world of difference to someone facing homelessness, addiction, exploitation, or hardship. A clean pair of socks, soap, feminine hygiene products, or a meal can provide comfort, dignity, and hope during a difficult time.

This is the heart of what we do at Reaching for the Shining Starz—meeting women where they are and reminding them that they matter. 🩷

We were honored to sponsor a trophy at the Legion Riders Post 532 Car Show today! 🚗🏆

This wonderful event brought together car enthusiasts, community members, and supporters for a great cause. We were especially proud to support an event benefiting the Honor Flight Guardians, whose dedication helps ensure our veterans have the support and assistance they need during their Honor Flight experiences.

The past two weeks of outreach have been busy, impactful, and a powerful reminder of why this work matters.

As the summer months arrive, the needs of the women we serve begin to change. We adapt our outreach efforts to provide seasonal essentials, hydration, hygiene items, clean clothing, and the support our ladies need to navigate life on the streets.

Every outreach bag we distribute is more than a collection of supplies—it is a message of hope. It says, “You are seen. You are valued. You matter.”

This is why our Fill the Bag. Give Hope. campaign is so important. Every donation helps provide the essentials that bring comfort, dignity, and encouragement to women facing homelessness, addiction, and exploitation.

Fill the Bag. Give Hope.

For more than a decade, we've driven the streets of the Hilltop and Sullivant Avenue communities, serving women impacted by human trafficking, addiction, and homelessness. Every week, we provide meals, clothing, hygiene items, and most importantly, a reminder that they are seen, valued, and loved.

Today, we're launching our Fill the Bag. Give Hope. Campaign!

Our goal is to raise $5,000 by July 31 to provide 200 hygiene bags to women in need.

Last Sunday was a rainy evening, and it took awhile to find our ladies on outreach.

One woman shared with us:
“Sorry if I seem grumpy, it’s been a rough week out here with all the rain. But I am so looking forward to dry clothes and socks and I get to eat today!”

Moments like this are a powerful reminder that small things many of us take for granted—dry socks, clean clothes, a meal—can mean everything to someone trying to survive another day.

We are grateful to continue showing up for the women we serve with compassion, dignity, and care. 🩷

The last two Sundays have been busy, fulfilling, and a reminder of why we do this work. 🩷

As the weather gets warmer, we know the pace on the streets increases—and so do the needs of the women we serve. Each week, we continue showing up with compassion, resources, and support for our ladies.

Last week, we had the privilege of participating in a powerful panel at the Soroptimist International Spring Conference. 🩷

The conversation focused on a critical issue—how youth aging out of foster care are at greater risk for human and s*x trafficking. Together, the panel explored what’s happening today and how we can strengthen prevention, intervention, and system-level solutions, all while centering survivor voices.

Sunday Outreach 🩷
We were done in under 25 minutes—the need was great. So many women were already waiting for us.

We served as many as we could, but ran out of hygiene bags and lunches. The demand continues to grow.

Outreach Update 🩷
We served 23 women on Sunday night. A few shared they had been looking for us—we were so glad to find them again.

We gently reminded everyone that we’re out every Sunday, traveling Sullivant from Franklinton to the Hilltop and back.

Showing up consistently matters. Connection matters. ✨
