If you lined up 23,000 wish kids, you would see thousands of different stories, medical journeys, and dreams. This summer, we're celebrating our 23,000th wish, thanks to WishMakers like you! Our milestone wish was granted to 14-year-old wish kid Braelyn, whose wish was to go to Destin, Florida, with her family. For Braelyn and her family, the wish represented more than a vacation. It was a celebration of her resilience and progress throughout treatment.
"What connects our wish kids and families is the moment when hope becomes something tangible. Braelyn's wish reminds us that while children may spend months or even years focused on treatments, appointments, and recovery, a wish gives them the chance to focus on being a kid, making memories with the people they love and looking forward to what's next,” said our President and CEO, Juli Miller.
In August 2022, Braelyn began experiencing headaches. After multiple doctor visits and an MRI, physicians discovered a brain tumor, which was surgically removed. When the tumor later began growing again, she began chemotherapy treatments and is now nearing the completion of those treatments.
“This trip was a celebration of how far Braelyn has come," said Heather, Braelyn's mom. "For a week, she wasn't focused on treatments or doctors' appointments. She was focused on the beach, snorkeling, dolphins and spending time with her family. The memories we made together are something we'll cherish forever. We are so grateful for the experience.”
