In the winter of 1944, during the Battle of Bastogne, Augusta Chiwy risked her life to care for wounded American soldiers under unimaginable conditions.

With no electricity, no anesthesia, and limited medical supplies, she worked alongside Dr. Jack Prior to treat the injured, performing life-saving procedures with whatever was available. Many of the soldiers she cared for required more advanced treatment than they could provide, but Augusta never stopped showing up.

Even after a bomb destroyed the aid station on Christmas Eve, killing dozens and nearly taking her life, she continued helping the wounded at a new location.
Her courage, resilience, and compassion in the face of extreme adversity continue to inspire.
