El Jaliciense: A Love Letter 💘
One of my most favorite restaurants in Columbus, a consistent source of joy and delight. Living on the Westside comes with the bonus of having easy access to some of the best Latin American restaurants & food trucks in the city. El Jaliciense is a family-run restaurant that’s been serving authentic Jalisco cuisine since 2010. They’re known for their tacos, burritos, and enchiladas, but you really can’t go wrong with anything on their menu.

Order: huevos rancheros + flour tortillas (contentious! I prefer flour over corn). I kept it spicy with their salsa roja and tomatillo salsa verde 🌶️

BIG FAN of Lupita’s Mexican Cuisine & Bar. Lupita’s brings the flavors of Mexico City to S. High St. (between Merion & Hungarian Village). Every dish I’ve ever ordered from them has been nothing short of fantastic.

From an interview with , Lupita’s is experienced in giving Ohio a taste of Mexico. They’re owned by a father-daughter team, Eduardo and Natalia Escudero. The family owned and operated El Patron Mexican Cuisine in Seville, Ohio for over a decade.

Order: Enchiladas Rojas con queso, chile relleno.

Depression: cured (temporarily). is a mandatory stop for anyone coming through Columbus. We interviewed owners Krizzia and Chef Lida at a Spice Up event in 2019 for a boodle night. We still dream about it.

Order: Spicy Tofu + side salad, atchara, spicy sambal sauce (keep it spicy 🌶️)

I LOVED the black sequin lehenga and jewelry I wore at the Spice Up Diwali show, all from ✨🪩 The owner, Monika Singh, also runs Aab India in Grandview. I met her on a Sunday afternoon while ordering my favorite comfort dish, Paneer Makhani. I told her about Spice Up and she invited me to come look at pieces at The Indian Trunk. I was going to rent a piece, but once I tried this piece on I had to own it. So happy with my final look ⭐️ Highly recommend if you’re looking for Desi wear, located in Dublin.

Two unforgettable Diwali shows, what a way to ring out the year 🪔 Thank you again to all who came out, supported, and showed us all love ♥️ The tone was set from the top of the night with mouth watering Agni pani-puri from Chef Avishar and Chef JJ. Both shows began with sets from Tanya then Pinak, who’re basically your local Gujarati cousins. We moved to an interview with Abby, Chef Avishar, and Tanya, where we learned about cooking inspirations, where the best food in the world can be found, and if Padma Lakshmi is as ethereal as she seems. The night was capped with Abby’s set from her now hour, Pushing 30, which encapsulated what it feels like to come of age as an Indian American.

I tried pizza of the month: buffalo chicken (& mushroom!) pie 🍕 I’m a vegetarian so I called in to request half be made with mushroom and they were happy to accommodate. I was impressed with this pie, great balance of toppings and sauce. Perfect size for two (I used my head for scale). I’ll be back and I suggest you make a trip, too. I, of course, kept it spicy with ’s truffle chili oil 🌶️

I’ve been a bug fan of Bobby Jo’s this year; I was a frequent supporter during their pop-ups at on the West side. Proud of their quick growth, very cool to see them go from taking IG orders, popping up around the city, and then moving into a brick and mortar in Donerick’s Pub. They’re a testament to what discipline, consistency, and community support can do to make your dreams come true.
