Our City, Our Say

Our City, Our Say In Columbus, we have a rigged system, designed to ensure that big money and a small group of people control the future of our city. One district. Join us.

The solution is simple: One council member. Elected by the people who live there.

What if we told you that WE had the power to unrig the system in Columbus?

Come to the Northside Library at 6 pm on Monday, June 8th for a quick 1-hour training to learn how to collect signatures for a ballot initiative to change how we elect Columbus city council so we can make them more accountable to us—the people who actually live here—than the billionaires who fund their campaigns. “Even more glaring than West Broad Street’s vacant storefronts is the absence of any elected city council representation or leadership. These systemic conditions are byproducts of our at-large voting system.”

At-large voting has produced a culture of auto-pilot governance by electeds who acquiesce to the demands of the donor class instead of their constituents, the most recent example of which is the handover of McCoy Park to the Haslam Sports Group.

ICMYI: Yesterday petition committee member Chris Tavenor had a guest editorial in the Columbus Dispatch (link in comments).

They invite City Council members to join our coalition as we work to get a simple fix in our city charter so that neighborhoods have a real voice at City Hall.

Are you tired of City Hall ignoring us, while listening to billionaires and corporations who *buy* a louder voice than the people? Our movement to bring real democratic representation to Columbus picked up great momentum this week, with some amazing testimony Monday night to City Council, and then volunteers ALL OVER the city on Tuesday who gathered more than 4,200 signatures. (Wow! Thank you!!!)

But we still need YOUR help to collect the signatures we need to qualify for the November ballot! Please come meet our volunteers at one of the locations/times listed below to get a quick training and petitions to circulate, OR turn in any packets you've already collected.

📣 Fridays: 8:00 - 10:00 am at Qahwah Coffee, 189 E. Main Street (Columbus DSA Team)
📣 Fridays: 5:00 - 6:30 pm at Global Gallery, 3535 N. High Street (OCOS Volunteer Will)
📣 Sundays: 9:00 - 10:30 am at Galaxy Coffee, 3264 N. High Street (OCOS Volunteers Sharon and Chris)
📣 Mondays: 5:30 - 6:30 pm at Global Gallery, 3535 N. High Street (Indivisible Central Ohio Team)
📣 Thursdays: 5:00 - 6:30 pm at the Main Library downtown, in the cafe, 96 South Grant Ave. (OCOS Volunteer Jean)

Let's make some good trouble, un-rig this system and shift power back to the people where it belongs.

Numbers like this—on a single day—are possible because WE show up for each other. When the people of Columbus come together, we’re unstoppable. And we’re just getting started . . .
