CoMo Mobile Aid Collective

CoMo Mobile Aid Collective CoMAC is dedicated to providing marginalized citizens of Columbia, MO with resources, care, & respect Approximately 100-120 folks are served at each run.

The CoMo Mobile Soup Kitchen serves lunch and provides supplies to camps and the downtown area on Mondays and Wednesdays. The CoMo Mobile Med Team offers a first aid clinic on Monday and Thursday evenings at Loaves & Fishes and attends to unsheltered friends as needed throughout the week. The CoMo Mobile Street Outreach Team provides food, hydration and supplies during severe hot and cold temperat

ures and other extreme weather events. Depending on the season, we deliver food & supplies 2-3 days/week to our unsheltered neighbors living in wooded areas around the city, flying signs at intersections, and utilizing the main day center in town. (Numbers change due to season and other factors). We have a family of volunteers and restaurants that prepare meals, donate supplies, and assist with deliveries & camp/trash cleanups. We are always looking for more caring friends to get involved, especially as supply support. Since we are now working year-round (rather than just during the winter), we have an ongoing list of needs and items that we need to purchase continuously including food, first aid supplies, tents, hygiene supplies, sleeping bags, medicine, tarps, and more. All funds will be used to purchase food & supplies for serving our unsheltered neighbors in need here in Columbia, Missouri. Radical hospitality to us means supporting those in need no matter what. Please help us continue our mission!

Hi friends! We will be hosting an online auction in mid-July to help with our fun-raising and are looking for donations to add to our auction roster! If you, your business, or anyone you know might like to donate some of these items, please reach out to Cat to get on the list.

We need to get the items by July 1 (or much earlier if possible) to get them photographed and added to the auction site. Thanks so much for your support!

πŸ₯³ We are celebrating the interns who worked with us this semester! We have a lot of students that volunteer with us, but these 3 had official internships through MU and dedicated a lot of their time to getting to know our friends through direct aid action! Cheers to all of them!

TODAY'S SPOTLIGHT: KENDALL πŸ’“

Kendall's introduction to COMAC was a bit unconventional; she learned about the organization through a class about nonprofits through the Honors College at Mizzou, Honors Nonprofit Sector. Students were exposed to a host of agencies and then were able to apply for an internship. After Cat's presentation, Kendall was hooked!
Her internship consists of approximately 8 hours per week, and she typically spent Wednesday assisting with the mobile soup kitchen, although she has also helped with med clinic and picking up donations or other various tasks that need attention.
Kendall reports her favorite part of the internship was the hands-on aspect and learning names of unhoused neighbors; she has truly embraced the meaning of community and feels more connected as a result.

Kendall also expressed gratitude for everyone involved with COMAC; she has a lot of admiration for people she has met and hopes to continue to make a difference in the future! Kendall-- we will miss your bright smile, your audiobook recommendations, and longing after your iced coffees! Please join us anytime! 🩡

TODAY'S SPOTLIGHT: EMMA πŸ’“

Emma's interest in COMAC emanated through her work with vulnerable populations as a tech at University Hospital in the integrated medicine division. She was discussing this with her advisor and options for an internship when COMAC was suggested as an option. Emma decided to sign up to volunteer to gain more perspective and insight before pursuing an internship, and then was hooked!

The internship required 50 hours and Emma was able to gain a myriad of experiences during this time. She served in Domino and the Magic Bus during med clinic, helped Pam with sorting and transporting donations, assisted with showers both at MUMC and med clinic, and also was able to ride along with Kay for Winter Warriors and mobile soup kitchen. Emma commented that she loved all of it, but perhaps most meaningful was providing direct aid to people in need. She remarked how positive, appreciative and kind the recipients of the service were, that despite their hardships, they maintained a pleasant demeanor. Finally, Emma had to complete a project as part of her internship and she restructured the volunteer on boarding process to make it more standardized. Many thanks, Emma! We will miss you! 🩡

TODAY'S SPOTLIGHT: SAM πŸ’“
Samara (Sam) jumped at the opportunity to fulfill their practicum at COMAC. They had been working at MUPC (University of Missouri Psychiatric Center) and interacted with several patients who were unhoused. As a mental health technician there, they developed a rapport and comfort level in serving and wanted to further their involvement. Sam has also volunteered at RATI with meal preparation. When asked about their favorite aspect of serving at COMAC, Sam shared that they have loved everyone they have met! From the volunteers to the guests, it has been a pleasure to complete their practicum and they will continue their passion as an RN at MUPC following graduation!

Sam's semester project focused on direct surveys with our unhoused friends and our volunteers & staff specifically focused on medication management, treatment adherence, and doctor’s appointments. They also noticed that many clinic guests were struggling to keep their prescriptions organized and spent time with folks who needed assistance.

Many thanks, Sam! You are a delight and have been a bright spot at the med clinic! We are grateful you plan to spend more time with us soon. 🩡
