ADAPT, St. Joe County, is pleased to announce that Day Program services will resume on Tuesday, September 15th. Our temporary location is 1503 E. Chicago Road, Sturgis, in the Maplecrest Plaza. We will use this location until our old building is back and better than ever! The hours of operation and the method of transportation for program participants to and from the program is the same as before. If you have any questions, contact Christine Maher at 269-651-7900.

Due to a fire at the Adapt building at 907 N. Clay in Sturgis today, the day program will be closed next week. The building was empty and nobody was injured. There has been significant damage inside that is not visible from the outside. We are working to make alternate arrangements so that services can resume as soon as possible. Thank you to everyone who has offered assistance, to our staff members who were there today to do what they could and offer support, and community members who have sent us their well wishes. We will do what we always do - ADAPT!

Making a Difference: Amy Short’s Commitment to Outlook Clubhouse
Many people know Amy Short as a local business owner and community leader, but her commitment to the community extends far beyond her businesses.
For several years, Amy has served as an active Board Member of Outlook Clubhouse, affiliated with Adapt, Inc. She has become a strong advocate for individuals living with mental illness and for the opportunities that help them regain independence and confidence.
Outlook Clubhouse follows the evidence-based Clubhouse Model of psychosocial rehabilitation, providing adults living with mental illness a supportive community where they are valued, needed, and expected. A major focus of the program is helping members develop skills, build relationships, and transition into meaningful employment.
Employment is an area especially important to Amy. Through her businesses and her partnership with Outlook Clubhouse, she has helped provide transitional employment opportunities for several members. These opportunities allow individuals to gain valuable work experience, develop confidence and skills, and take important steps toward greater independence.
Amy’s commitment was recognized by the Michigan Legislature in May 2022, when she and her husband, Ted Short, received a Special Tribute for their partnership with Clubhouse Michigan and its members. The tribute recognized their dedication, generosity, and the positive impact they have had on the Coldwater community.
For Amy, it is not simply about providing someone with a job. It is about providing an opportunity to feel valued, to contribute, to build confidence, and to discover what they are capable of achieving.
Through her continued involvement with Outlook Clubhouse, Amy is demonstrating that when our community supports individuals living with mental illness, everyone benefits.
