New BWRI vessel alert! Thank you to a generous donor, we were able to acquire a new research vessel for the BWRI fleet. This vessel was previously owned and operated by the University of California Santa Cruz at the Bodega Bay campus. We are currently repowering the boat for a new life in Florida working on fisheries research and education as a floating classroom. Formerly the RV Mussel Point we need a new name to honor the boat and its new mission in life. We are leaning towards either the RV Blue World Guardian or the RV Coastal Guardian. What do you think? What would be a good name for the boat? Let us know in the comments.

Honored and excited to have been a small part of the 2026 Animal : The Animal Forensic Investigations Conference by One of senior scientists is an expert in marine forensics and we were invited to show some of what we do through whale response and fisheries science investigations. It’s comforting to know that when the world is dark because of actions from bad people towards people and pets there are experts that come to investigate and help to serve justice.
