The little things are often what make the holidays special. A favorite breakfast, cinnamon rolls fresh from the oven, and that first cup of coffee shared around the table.

These traditions may seem simple, but they mean so much, especially during difficult times.

Right now, Open Cupboard's shelves are completely out of coffee. For some of our neighbors, that means one more little piece of their holiday tradition could be missing.

We believe that even during hard times, families deserve the comfort, joy, and traditions that make the holidays feel special.

WHOA… we hope the Hulk likes deviled eggs! 😂

Wendy is usually one of the friendliest faces you'll find at Open Cupboard, but apparently Halloween brings out a whole different side of her!

What a fun Halloween week we've had at OCFP! Our volunteers really stepped up, dressing up, having fun, and helping us highlight something that is genuinely scary: food insecurity.

There's another reason we love seeing everyone get into costume. Sometimes a little disguise can make it easier for someone who might feel uncomfortable asking for help to walk through our doors. At Open Cupboard, we want everyone to feel welcome, supported, and comfortable being here. No judgment, just neighbors helping neighbors.

As much fun as Halloween week has been, food insecurity doesn't end when the costumes come off. The need in our community is still very real, and we'll keep showing up for our neighbors long after the Halloween decorations come down.

A big thank-you to our volunteers for bringing the laughs, raising awareness, and reminding us that even when times are scary, no one should have to face hunger alone.

Some Thanksgiving traditions are bigger than others. ❤️

Sometimes, it's not the turkey or the big family gathering. It's that familiar green bean casserole Grandma always made. The one that wouldn't feel like Thanksgiving without the crispy fried onions on top.

For families facing food insecurity, those little traditions can be harder to hold onto. But we believe everyone deserves to have those familiar favorites on their Thanksgiving table.

We're asking for a little help making that happen.

Our volunteers have been dressing up all week to remind everyone that food insecurity is SCARY. 👻

Annie showed up in her Mets gear with one important message: GOTTA BELIEVE! ⚾ We admire the optimism, Annie. Being a Mets fan takes a special kind of faith! 😂

But one thing we KNOW we can count on is our community!

Since it's Mischief Night in New Jersey, let's make some good choices. How about skipping the mischief and helping us fill our pantry shelves with toilet paper instead? 🧻

Toilet paper is an everyday essential that food assistance doesn't cover. Help us make sure our neighbors don't have to go without.

As scary as Mark's costume pictured below is.... it's been a scarier week thinking about food insecurity!

TODAY IS NATIONAL CAT DAY! 🐱🐾

And while we're all celebrating our feline friends, there's something scary happening at Open Cupboard…

WE'RE OUT OF DRY CAT FOOD. 😿

When families struggle to put food on the table, their pets feel it, too. No one should have to choose between feeding themselves and feeding a beloved pet. Our cats and dogs are family, and for someone going through a difficult time, that furry friend may be the very thing getting them through it.

💚 TALES FROM OUTSIDE THE CUPBOARD 💚

We usually share Tales from Inside the Cupboard, but today, we have a story from outside our doors that’s just too special not to share.

We have a donor who shows up for Open Cupboard every single week. And what makes his story so special is where he is when he thinks about us.

While sitting through dialysis, he spends time thinking about our pantry. What do we need? What are we running low on? What little extras might our clients enjoy? Sometimes, he even orders items for us right from his dialysis chair! 🥹💚

You know who you are, and we hope you know just how much this means to us. ❤️

While facing challenges of your own, you continue to think about how to make life a little easier for someone else. That is a beautiful kind of strength, and a reminder that kindness doesn't wait for the perfect moment. It finds a way, right in the middle of real life.

You don't have to change the world to change someone's day. Maybe it's picking up an extra item, organizing a small food drive, or sharing our wishlist. The smallest gestures can mean everything to someone who is struggling.

To our weekly donor, thank you for reminding us what neighbors helping neighbors truly looks like. We are so grateful for you. 💚
