HIGH BRIDGE — The sun beat down on the black pavement as wheels got ready to roll down Main Street during the annual Soapbox Derby held on Saturday, June 6

We were honored to display one of our new Soap Box Derby banners at the race. Another really great story behind this race. During our planning stage, we chose Hunterdon County Polytech’s Studio 111 Graphics Arts class to create a new banner design. Through a contest between the students, we received 8 student entries. Our volunteers chose the banner design you see. Once we gave our selection to the teacher, she revealed to us that the winning design we chose was created by a High Bridge student! How fitting that the very banners we use to advertise our event were designed by one of our own. We would like to congratulate Hunterdon County Polytech Graphic Arts Student of the Year, and High Bridge’s very own, Jessica Mendenhall! We are in awe of your talent , and we are proud to have your creative design on our banners for many years to come! We wish you all the best in your future upon graduation this year. We know your future is very bright!

Part of what makes this race so special is when you can witness and capture moments like this. Two sisters racing against one another. Ashlynn and Shannon were captured jokingly staring one another down before they left the starting gates. When all was said and done, both had placed 3rd and 1st in the High Bridge Soap Box Derby. In speaking with their father, we learned that this was Ashlynn’s last race with us. These moments between sisters racing one another may be over, but we are certain that Ashlynn will be Shannon’s biggest cheerleader next year! Thank you for giving us these special moments and being such amazing racers in our Soap Box Derby!🏁🏎️

The Annual High Bridge Soap Box Derby was a success today! We wanted to take the time to thank all of the volunteers, High Bridge Fire Department, Department of Public Works, and Police Department for playing a huge part in the success of the Derby. Thank you to our sponsors for your support of this great community event. Our racers and their families had a great day of racing fun, and we thank all of you who came out to see them race. Thank you to member of the High Bridge Fire Department who not only volunteered for this event, but also for making the awards presentation so special. It was only fitting to have our hometown heroes present the racers with their awards. We will share more details of the race in the coming days. Thank you to Doctor D for being our emcee. A huge thank you to Justin Coleman for capturing every part of the race with his videography. We will share the video when it’s ready. He added special touches this year that we think you will enjoy.
