The plans for the Sept. 20 Beachview Toddler Trek are just about done. Posie from Patts Garden Center and her friend Charley, Highland School's Therapy Dog will both be there. They love reading and meeting children. Noon to 2:00 on that Saturday.
See ya there.

It wasn't hot yet when we finished changing out the StoryWalk book at Beachview Park today. If you have ever heard someone say, "There's Nothing to Do Today" you might want to check out this book. It's cute. It's clever. Enjoy in the cool of the morning or the dusk of the evening. Then take a leisurely walk down by the river. It's much cooler in the shade of the trees along the water.

Last Saturday we changed out the book at Beachview Park StoryWalk It is quite a delightful book. Go in the cool of the morning or later in the evening, you'll be cooler.

If you would like to sponsor a book, it costs $120. That covers buying two copies of the book needed to display the front and back of a page and the heavy laminate that will allow us to display the book again in the future.

This last year we have honored four people who recently passed away and who loved the library and reading . The groups that sponsored these added a picture and we helped them with the accompanying tribute All seemed very help with this memorial to their loved ones.

We take suggestions for books to be displayed and get your permission before buying or laminating. We choose not to post anything political or religious.

We have quite a list of Literacy Partners. Some donating time, others books, many with ideas and some with money. This week we were very pleased to receive a $2000 check from the Avista Foundation to buy books for the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Project.

We are in our 4th year of the 1000 Books Project and have over 475 children whose families are working to meet that 1000 Book Challenge.

The Avista Foundation has been with us every step of the way. Thank you Avista Foundation for continuing to help us give free books to any birth to five year old who stops by the Asotin County Library and accepts the 1000 Book Challenge.

Visit Beachview Park in downtown Clarkston and check out the StoryWalk. This morning, Patti, Lois, JR, Brad, Sandy and Jan changed out the book and its a fun read. Take a friend. Take a child. We think you'll like the read.

Do you know any families with birth to five year old children who haven't signed up for the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten Program. The Foundation has a table set up just inside the main library doors where families can easily sign up and then take home books. The books are free and theirs to keep. They can come in any time the library is open and get more free books as well as check out library books.

We add books to the cart a couple times a month. Many are new and some have been donated and have been gently read.

We challenge families to read to little ones every day and shoot for the goal of having read at least 1000 books before the little one enters kindergarten. We now have over 470 children who have signed up and we haven given out so many books since the program started about 3 years ago..

AND we have so many more books that need homes.

"See Ya Later, Alligator" is the theme of the book we just put on display in the StoryWalk at Beachview Park in Clarkston. It is charming, colorful and should be a fun read for you.

Please let us know if you have visited the StoryWalk. We would love to hear from you.

AND Beachview Park is looking so GOOD...an enjoyable stroll or time to sit and enjoy .

It was a perfect day to be at Beachview Park so we changed out the book at the StoryWalk. It's another exceptionally cute book with some very special dinosaurs. Go by yourself or go for a walk with a friend. We think these dinosaurs will bring a chuckle or two, no matter how old you are.
